Puget Sound has crabs.

An invasive species of European green crabs, “one of the world’s most harmful marine species,” has been detected in the Salish Sea. They “damage bed sediments, leading to the loss of eelgrass, an essential habitat for Dungeness crab and Pacific salmon.”

The Tulalip Tribes reported “detection of a green crab in the southern Whidbey Basin at Mission Beach” earlier this year.

Get outta here, crabbies!

🦀🐋 California has delayed the start of Dungeness crab season until at least the New Year to protect migrating whales and sea turtles from entanglement, officials say.

I'm really glad I remembered my gloves this time cause two of them grabbed on hard. I think the most difficult thing about catching crabs is getting them out of the trap. #boating #crabbing (2/2)

The wind is 21 gusting to 37 here. A sailboat that came in two days ago just went back out and I suspect they will regret it.

The wind should be a lot lighter tomorrow. I'm going to try to get out at noon and anchor at my secret crab spot. Did I mention that I had to throw back 14 crabs the other day? I'm sure at least five of them were keepers. #boating #crabbing

In honor of California's new official crustacean, we present to you the illustrious #DungenessCrab, beautifully rendered by Fiorella Ikeue 🦀

In case you hadn't heard, "California has officially designated three new state symbols, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday. The state now recognizes the #Dungeness crab as its official crustacean, the banana slug as its official slug, and the black abalone as its official seashell."

Good morning Mastodon! Greetings from a beautiful day at the Octopus Islands in awesome #BC! Here's a #drone shot of our rafted boats at anchor. The weather has finally cleared and it looks like a good day for a cruise southbound to Quadra Island.

And I was finally rewarded for my efforts at #crabbing up here with two good sized red rock crabs. I've already cleaned and cooked them and will bring them to this evening cocktail hour.

Drone photo of a calm water cove surrounded by Rocky shoreline and tall evergreen trees. White clouds and blue sky are reflected in the glassy smooth water. Six boats are tied together at anchor near one shoreline. There are mountains in the distance.

Well, it looks like I either caught lunch or dinner. Both of these are about a quarter inch larger than the minimum and both male so they're both keepers. Oddly, they were the only crabs on board when I pulled them in; the last few times the trap has been full. #boating #crabbing #BoatLife #SanJuanIslands

went back to , for some , it’s the tail end of the good crabbing season and after stormy conditions the day before we only got 5 keepers, yet the weather was gorgeous and the shells were full of meat good eatin’!

View from a boat on a sunny day in the southern end of Netarts Bay, OR. The waters are calm, and perspective is looking at the hills on the southern rim of the bay, and past the view of the boat’s passenger windshield and my arm a small part of the Netarts Spit is visible. Two dungeness crabs inside of a crab trap are brought aboard the boat, ready to be inspected for sex and size, as only male crabs of a certain width are permissible to keep with a recreational shellfish license.Me, dressed for the unexpectedly warm and sunny weather wearing a life jacket, preparing to shake out a cast of crabs from the trap and back into the bay. These crabs were all either too small or females. Behind me is the Oregon mainland, the eastern ridge of Netarts Bay.
