I invite you to perform the following experiment:

1. Pull out your #plastic cutting board.
2. Run a bit of water on it, to get it wet.
3. Draw your knife along the cutting board once or twice, as though scraping minced vegetables onto a plate.
4. Examine the side of your wet knife.

If yours is anything like mine, you'll see a bunch of tiny plastic crap you've probably been eating for years.

I’ve been a #woodworker for almost 50 years and never made a cutting board. Now I’ve made 2 in the last 10 days. This one I made with my son from edge grain cherry I’ve had laying around. Finish is Butcher Block Conditioner from Howard Products .

Sqsh & Mtn Dew

Made this One-Pan Roasted Butternut Squash & Chicken for dinner because we had everything but the squash. (This required a trip to the grocery which is almost like going to the gym in my book!)

Added brussels sprouts just because, which helped — but it wasn’t quite the home run I’d hoped. If you’ve a one pan recipe that combines squash and brussels sprouts, pls lmk.

Saw this wall of Mtn Dew at by the sausage and thought I’d capture the current state of packaging before they jump to a new logo, which is better and fine — but man, the one from 1969 that lastest 30 years sure is nice.

In other news, I’m collecting songs that include Cincinnati in the lyrics and Jesus, Take the Wheel has it right there in the beginning.

This is disappointing. Took some red oak and worked it into a nice end grain board but look at all those fractures. Oak is already porous and was going to need some epoxy or at least a tung oil bath but with this many gaps and tears I don’t think I can keep it as something for utility.

Guess I’ll need to make it an art project. 😮‍💨 Ideas?

I have been secretly working on an end grain cutting board for my wife (she thought I was working on my marble sculpture, so the noise was plausible). Today is her birthday, so I could finally give it to her. It's walnut and maple, sanded up the 3000 grit, making the surface a bit glossy. Now it's up to her to decide if she'll actually use it for cutting or if she'll just keep it for decoration.
