"Army Cyber Corps" ist nicht nur ein unglaublich alberner Name, man erkläre mir auch bitte warum man an PC und Whiteboard in Tarnkleidung arbeitet?

TLDR: Ein einziges Policy-Feld ist nichts worauf die Wahlentscheidung basieren sollte.
Service toot for sysadmin folks:
There's six vulnerabilities in #rsync, including a CVSS of 9.8: "In the most severe CVE, an attacker only requires
anonymous read access to a rsync server, such as a public mirror, to
execute arbitrary code on the machine the server is running on."
Full report of all six vulnerabilities: https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2025/01/14/3
The most critical vulnerability (CVE-2024-12084) seems to be fixed in Debian Stable atm: https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/source-package/rsync

Interesting read but i am not sure if i agree.
Professionalism in this area usually means more compliance and you can't achieve more security with more compliancy.

Hello, I am a cybersecurity engineer with specialties in networking, Linux, cloud security, and burning myself with a soldering iron, with near-as-makes-no-difference three decades of experience, and I just went rounds with AWS because I had a fucking space at the end of an ARN in an IAM policy.
In case you were feeling impostor syndrome-y today.

Thoughts on the #FBI statements re #China and US #infrastructure (just google proceeding hashtags for details), mainly since I am being asked about it by friends - 1) no this isn't new and the IC has known about it for years, 2) comparing a count of just FBI cyber agents vs PRC hackers doesn't count CIA/NSA/TRO/etc so isn't a fair Intel headcount, and 3) one testifies in Congress to get them to do something. I'm guessing by pointing out headcount they want more budget.
I'm not saying the threat isn't real - it most certainly fucking is - but there is always a lot of moving parts as these things continuously play out.

"Capita staff are understood to have been unable to access IT systems since the early hours of Friday, and an early investigation has yet to establish the cause."
*COUGH*ullshit. Capita might be crapita, but no IT could be /that/ rubbish. Maybe they don't have a full root cause timeline or whatnot, but the difference between "AD's not working" and "we've been randomware'd" is pretty obvious.

Hello Mastodon tribe!
Today the latest podcast episode of “The Social Science of War” was released by the Department of Social Sciences at the United States Military Academy, West Point. In it, my friend Kyle Atwell leads a discussion between me and a personal hero of mine, Colonel Candice Frost. We discuss #cybercybercyber and have some fun. COL Frost is the commander of the Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) for the Cyber National Mission Force, USCYBERCOM. She’s brilliant.
In addition to being totally enthusiastic about her work, COL Frost lives to mentor the next gen of women in tech, and takes time (despite her insane Army schedule and job) to teach for Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program. I find myself motivated just being in the same room as her! Give a listen at the link below :ablobcatheadphones:
