@MichaelKlamerus Our group uses #Genesys to play #ttrpg versions of various video games. In the past five years, we've used it for StarCraft, Alpha Centauri, Battle for Wesnoth, and XCOM. Further in the past we used #GURPS and #d20Modern for Fallout games. We've never used an official TTRPG version of a video game, preferring to stick with generic systems designed to be used in whatever setting we desire.

@glecharles We like generic #ttrpg systems for the flexibility they provide us to play in these sorts of settings. We made our own Fallout stories with #GURPS and with #d20Modern. We then found #Genesys, which we prefer, and we've used that for the others. With Fallout, XCOM, and Alpha Centauri, we mostly used the general feel of the video game universe. With StarCraft and Battle for Wesnoth, we tied people and events from the #videogame storylines more closely into our adventures.

TL;DR the higher the law level, the more taxes & cops there are. But also, crime-related skills are more relevant.

I sketched out a legal system integrating police response % (inspired by #eveonline ), restrictions on bearing arms & armor in public which require corresponding permits (inspired by #traveller and #d20modern ), and a framework for taxes on property & trade.

I realized that this framework can be used to justify & expand player-driven criminal enterprise, as the greater the bureaucracy, the greater the opportunity for exploitation & corruption, eg. bribes, blackmail, forgery, sabotage, fraud & deception, larceny, & impersonation.

I believe it'd be possible to make a D&D-like game I like better, but WotC won't be the one to make it.

#Eberron is my favorite D&D setting by far! But sometimes an original setting is a better fit for a D&Dish idea. And sometimes a fantasy idea isn't particularly D&Dish, but I don't have a system I favor for that yet.

@chaosfae I went from #dnd to #riftsrpg to #shadowrun and then desperately tried to run those settings with #d20modern before realizing that I just didn't love the d20 system.

After trying a handful of other popular systems, many of which I really liked but just didn't love, I tried to make my own.

That was a dumb idea 😂😂😂. Shortly after I discovered #savageworlds and I'm extremely happy with it. It feels like such a perfect balance between on-the-table and over-the-table play.

@Morgunin Ha, Palladium Fantasy was the first #ttrpg I ever played and GMed. And a lot of long campaigns in RIFTS. Many fond memories.

Wouldn't touch its horribly broken rules with a 10-ft-pole anymore, though. ;)

Salutations. I'm Canageek. I am an inorganic chemist in Canada.

More relevant: I'm currently in a #GURPS campaign. The game I've run the most of is #CallofCthulhu #CoC I've played a lot of #DnD including huge amounts of Living #Greyhawk back when it ran. I've also played some #Alternity , #d20Modern , and a ton of other games in one-offs and at conventions.

I tend not to be a fan of #Fate or other narrative games, favouring games where the focus is on the characters actions, not the story.
