Welcome to rainbow nation 🌈 maafrika dzonga

Write about a few of your favorite family traditions.

South Africa is a tapestry of cultures, languages, and traditions. In our remote villages, every gathering feels like a family reunion. As an African woman, I cherish our belief that it takes a village to raise a child. Uninvited guests at celebrations are a norm; we embrace everyone as family. When we mourn, the community unites, often slaughtering a cow to honor the departed. We don’t worship the dead, but we express gratitude for their impact on our lives. During Easter and December, we gather, light herbs, and share stories of our ancestors, believing they watch over us. Our homebrew beer fuels laughter, singing, and dancing, sometimes for three days straight.

In our tight-knit communities, we care for one another—checking in when someone is sick or facing hardship. We have stokvel societies to support each other financially, ensuring no one is left behind. Church strengthens our bonds, reminding us of our shared faith. In our language, we say, “umuntu ngu muntu ngabantu,” meaning we are who we are because of each other. This is the essence of ubuntu—humility and togetherness.

We brew umqobothi, our homebrew beer, and cook goat with pap, creating a feast that lasts for days. These gatherings are not just about food; they are about connection, sharing stories of our triumphs and challenges. We support each other in times of need, ensuring no one is left behind. Our stokvel society strengthens our bonds, pooling resources for funerals and community needs. Church unites us in faith, reminding us of our shared humanity. As we say, “umuntu ngu muntu ngabantu” – a person is a person through other people. This is the essence of our community, where we thrive together.

Bloganuary writing prompt What snack would you eat right now? View all responses

A day late and a dollar short. Sounds like me.

I had every intention of answering Friday’s writing prompt question on Friday, but I woke up sick and my whole day went down the toilet (literally and figuratively) and I never got around to it. That means that you get Friday and Saturday’s writing prompts on Saturday. I can see how amazed you are.

I will keep this one short and painful and hyper focused on the goings on in my stomach yesterday. The answer to the question at it’s basic level was I couldn’t eat a snack if I tried.

I woke up a little late and my stomach was a little sore. As I started to go about my morning routine that soreness became major pain. I tried to have some water, as I always do at the start of my morning, and had to stop after a small amount. I got my first round of vitamins in at least. I was curious if the pain was due to hunger, which sometimes happens, even though I knew it wasn’t. I tried to eat a protein bar but had to stop after a few bites.

That was it. I had another little bit of water later in the day but that went badly too. All in all I finished the day with about eight ounces of water (the goal is 64) and maybe five grams of protein (the goal is 80). I couldn’t have had any more if I tried. The very thought of food made me feel nauseous.

So the literal answer to the question of what snack I could have eaten at any given moment yesterday was none. Today might be a different answer, but I am going to take it as easy as I can. I probably will stick to protein bars until dinner just to make certain that everything is okay now.

I’m sure I will let you all know how it goes as the day rolls on. stay tuned?

What snack would you eat right now?

Yes it’s called monkey balls and it’s sold in Fiji islands 3 balls for a 1$

Monkey balls ( taste awesome )

Since the prompt is short answer let me give you a story from my mind . ( fiction )

From the heaven of my heart and from the munchies land munchington

Once upon a time in the whimsical town of Munchington, there lived a mischievous little creature named Snackington. Snackington was known for his insatiable appetite for snacks, especially the enchanted candies that sparkled in every color imaginable.

One sunny afternoon, Snackington discovered a hidden treasure trove of snacks deep within the Enchanted Forest. Unable to resist the temptation, he indulged in one delightful treat after another until he had consumed more snacks than his tiny belly could handle.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Snackington felt an odd sensation. To his astonishment, his teeth started to tingle and then, one by one, they began to wiggle and fall out. Panic set in as he realized the consequences of his snack-filled escapade.

Distraught and toothless, Snackington sought the advice of the wise old wizard, Molarus, who lived atop Candy Mountain. Molarus revealed that the enchanted snacks had a magical side effect when consumed in excess—they made teeth as light as air, causing them to float away.

Determined to remedy his predicament, Snackington embarked on a quest to retrieve his wandering teeth. With a toothbrush sword in hand and a floss rope at his side, he journeyed through the Marshmallow Marsh, crossed the Licorice Bridge, and ventured into the Gummy Bear Cave.

Along the way, Snackington encountered friendly creatures who offered guidance and shared tales of their own snack-related adventures. Together, they formed a merry band of snack enthusiasts, determined to find a way to reverse the enchantment.

As the group approached the elusive Candy Mountain, they faced a final challenge—a maze made of chewing gum. With clever teamwork and a few strategically placed snacks, they navigated the sticky labyrinth and reached the summit where Molarus awaited.

Molarus, impressed by Snackington’s determination, performed a magical ceremony to restore his teeth to their rightful places. Snackington learned a valuable lesson about moderation and the importance of caring for one’s pearly whites.

With his teeth once again intact, Snackington returned to Munchington, promising to savor his snacks in moderation and share the tale of his toothy adventure with others in the town. And so, the legend of Snackington’s toothy escapade became a cautionary tale for snack enthusiasts far and wide in the enchanted land of Munchington..
