Clevatess Episode 02 review: Bandits suck
Clevatess wasn’t supposed to hit this hard. Now I’m pacing between episodes like it owes me answers
To recap, Klen transformed into a human, both he and Alicia got captured by bandits in the previous episode. He points out that under this transformation, his skin is thin and frail. I like how he was just sat there nonchalantly in the wagon. I love how this particular scene echoes back to how Alicia was first introduced as a hero, with a twist of course from the first episode.
Did you guys see the overhead view of the bandit’s camp? showed a large hole, will that hole have something to do in this episode? I think it will. Bandits are pretty much your typical asses found in most fantasy, dark fantasy series. I hope they get their comeuppances, would love to see Klen tear a hole, big enough like that hole in the camp and teach them a lesson. Also, they might have found their wet nurse.
Alicia is brought to their “boss” Vrok. Pretty smart character, even if he is a total ass, he clocked that she was one of the 13 heroes. Curious, how did word get out, when she concealed her gender from the main fodder themselves? bit of a mystery there. It confirms what I suspected with Hiderat now in ruins, the price for their magical weapons is sought after. Vrok, is selling counterfeits, the swine.

Uh-oh, don’t like what the scene implied, where she was taken away from Vrok by his hench men, to have “a bit of fun”. Dark fantasy isn’t for everyone. And Clevatess isn’t holding back from the looks of it. Anyone looking for something nice, warm, fuzzy with pixie dust, better tune off, maybe watch Mashima’s Fairy Tail. Klen has been made to work what looks like a pub, ironic that one who has servants, is being made to serve others.
I do feel for an abused slave woman called Nell; she’s the wet nurse that is breast feeding Luna. She works at the pub. The abuse is held back and toned down; it could have been worse. However, that ass spanking is one thing, the black eye is a dead giveaway.
Actually, I take that back a bit. Nell recounts her back story, and not gonna lie, it was a bit hard to take in. She was abused by the bandits since she was 12. Her plight made me really sorry for her. In order to survive, she had to essentially become a prostitute, this was done by Carme who took her in. I’m guessing she saw just how bad it would have gotten, so essentially saved her. Nell having given still births to not one, not two, but three kids of her own, really shows how Clevatess can be brutal. Klen who listened intently, didn’t interrupt, let Nell tell her story, then without question offered her a new path. For a dark beast, he’s showing far more human traits than what actual humans are in this series.
Wow the final few minutes were just so, damn, Alicia’s is taken to this rope bridge, where I suspected the bandits wanting to have fun with her is partially correct. Anway, some real nice world info dump was given. Remember the giant hole? well this place is an abandoned mineshaft for arcanacite called Elbe, the legendary hero Khordhwar was last seen here. 300 years ago, it got flooded, and with that flood brought dark beasts called Arvensis of the water. He wasn’t a match for them, however his sword Stream splitter is at the bottom.
Could Alicia be Saber in disguise, I mean she is blonde and cute too. What happened at the rope, isn’t for the faint of hearts, and holy hell left me awe struck.
Next Week’s Doom Forecast 🌩️
From what happened at the rope bridge, Alicia is an undead, so she will come back and kick their assess ten-fold. I do think Klen will start to act, in order to procure Nell’s service. Meaning he’s going to wipe them out.

Clevatess Episode 01 review: the dark lord beast
Welp, the premiere for Clevatess dropped, so I’m late, however, will be taking my time in doing these episode reviews. Also heads up: this review format’s an outlier, since epi 1 runs a hefty 45 mins long.
First impression: 90’s fantasy vibe & brutal world building
Straight off the bat, the art reminds me of those really early 90’s fantasy. So that is quite nice considering Clevatees is dark fantasy, and it doesn’t hold back either. The story starts off with some expo dump, introducing the main female lead Alicia as a child. Her dream is to be one of the chosen heroes, who will lead humanity in venturing further out from their lands and show the world, just how big…and bad, like really bad the world really is. Considering the continent of Edthea is guarded by the 4 lord beasts. I don’t know, this could tie into the mythos of Japan having 4 divine beasts, as each represent North, South, East and West. Maybe? the world is vastly unexplored so why do the 4 beasts guard the 4 points of the compass
(I don’t know about you; wouldn’t it be funny if Edthea is in a vast lake that pretends to be an ocean. Just throwing it out there). Anyway, Alicia becomes a chosen hero. So that’s very unsurprising. I got to meet some chu–characters that didn’t last as long as their name cards. Their weapons were legendary. Their wielders? fodder. Their name cards outlived their legacy
Yeah…he didn’t last longWhy’s that you ask? jokes on you, I don’t have 100g to give – I’m flat broke sue me okay! Clevatess, one of the 4 dark lord beasts has arrived. And holy hell … did you see the first attack? it was that fast, even the name cards were on longer. You all got them kill counts right? because I’m still stuck on one. Damn… you guys see that insane spinning sword evades by Alicia?! I love it!!
Da beast has arrived! Next time on epi 02 of clevatess >>A thousand years, that is some really nice expo dump given to me by Clevatess. He called them humanoids, weird thing to note on them. I’d bookmark that as well too, could hold some plot point in the future. Cleavatess, just decimates the heroes as if they are some lvl 1 noobs on a dungeon quest, who are out of their league.
Capital Carnage: Hiden Kingdom falls & furnace lore
Hiden kingdom, capital city Hiderat – I mean that is a very, er…curiously and very interesting name for a capital city. Sounds like it’s ripped from final fantasy XI! what you guys think? Not shockingly at all, Clevatess launches an attack on the named capital. His inner monologues are intriguing- he shows curiosity, whilst mowing down Hiden’s populace like he’s having stroll in the park.
Self-explanatory, looks like a cool fantasy city waiting to be doomedGod damn, that is just brutal Clevatess, pure execution- off with the king’s head! Jokes aside, Hilden is one of those places that would be targeted because they pose a threat, very typical fantasy-esq .. or they did something stupid, either way it lands in most fantasy settings.
I would have stayed quiet, now the city is going to get rekted because of themSomething else also caught my attention – the Hiderat furnace plays an important part in their smithery. Now that the king is dead, how they going to continue, they like going to cut off the king’s hand, shove it on the scanner or something?
Beyond the fangs: Mercy, curiosity, and monster philosophy
There is more to Clevatess than just some vengeful Thanatos, behind that animalistic instinct, he is at cross-roads with them. One hand he wants to wipe them out, on the other, a level of curiosity lies there. Showing a conflicted relationship, he harbours with them. He could have rejected a dying Hildreans wishes, but he didn’t. Instead taking on an infant. Just to see. Showing a small level of compassion to cement that complexity.
Ain’t Luna cute?Hildeans are the “elves-dwarves” of this fantasy setting, and they are more open to other races, unlike the usual racial tropes. I love the world building expo, giving so much insight into the world and other races.
The king of Hildean not wanting to mess with ClevatessUndead motherhood: Alicia, Luna and the beast’s mercy
Going back to how this all started, Alicia is in essence a tragic heroine. She died dreaming of something hopeful, only to have that dream shattered like an elegant cathedral windowpane. Clevatess, the beast who slaughtered her and her comrades, brings her back from the dead using his dark ichor. She returns as an undead servant, bound to help raise the infant, Luna. He demands that she feeds the baby, this even further cementing his complex relationship with humans.
Alicia, visibly embarrassed, admits she never had the chance to nurture, so suggests a wet nurse. I do like this scene, the morning light shining off arcanacite stones, it gives this very bittersweet glow – she is undead yet there is hope that shines. Oh, and they go by the name Klen and Luna. I had to laugh, Klen is so particular, that he overtly criticises Alicia on how to clean Luna. The sheer irony of this scene is like basking in holy water.
Cool, you’ll find a nanny or a babysitter!! that’s… a wet nurse is right? No, it got baby doo klen, what you never looked after a baby before, pfftI wonder what the legend is actually referring to, is there more to the legend that isn’t clear, does this involve a prophecy around Luna, like she is the chosen one who will lead humanity to the light side? also, the naming day of the son. Hang on, it can’t mean…anyway the kingdom has fallen. And well like any, in fantasy setting, you guessed it … other kingdoms are here to pick the bones off like Clevatess cleans his fangs with.
As usual, some other kingdom is here for the pickingNext stop: Bandits, bones and post-kingdom blues
Err… looks like this review has hit its word count of 1k … my bad, to quickly end, well not as epic as the OP ruler (which just rocks!). I’ll see you on the not-so-1k review! … don’t leave me behind Klen!!

5 Reasons Why You Should Watch Made in Abyss
Few anime blend beauty and horror as effectively as Made in Abyss. This visually stunning yet emotionally intense series takes viewers on a journey deep into a mysterious chasm filled with wonders, dangers, and heartbreaking truths. This anime is an experience like no other. But is it for you? In this post, there are five compelling reasons why this anime deserves a spot on your watchlist—and one reason it might not be the right fit for everyone.
What is Made in Abyss about?
Made in Abyss is a dark fantasy adventure anime that follows Riko, a young girl who dreams of exploring the Abyss, a vast, multi-layered chasm filled with ancient relics, strange creatures, and deadly secrets. As the daughter of a legendary Delver—one of the brave explorers who risk their lives uncovering its mysteries—Riko longs to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her journey begins when she discovers Reg, a robotic boy with no memory of his past but possessing incredible abilities. Determined to uncover Reg’s origins and find her mother, rumoured to be waiting at the bottom, the two descend into the Abyss, only to face unimaginable dangers as the environment grows increasingly hostile. Blending stunning visuals with haunting themes, Made in Abyss explores curiosity, survival, sacrifice, and the cost of knowledge, making it a must-watch for fans of deep, thought-provoking anime with real emotional stakes.
5 Reasons to watch Made in Abyss
1. Breathtaking World-Building
Made in Abyss features one of the most imaginative and meticulously crafted fantasy worlds in anime. The Abyss itself is a vast, mysterious chasm filled with unique ecosystems, ancient relics, and hidden dangers. Each layer introduces new creatures, survival challenges, and lore that keeps the audience deeply engaged. Many anime attempt deep world-building, but it stands out due to its organic storytelling. Information about the Abyss isn’t dumped on the viewer but revealed gradually through the protagonist’s journey, making discoveries feel natural and immersive.
2. Emotional Storytelling and Character Growth
The series delivers a powerful emotional journey, tackling themes of curiosity, loss, sacrifice, and the cost of ambition. The bond between Riko and Reg feels genuine, and their experiences shape their personalities in meaningful ways. Some anime rely on action or spectacle, but this series invests in emotional stakes, making the characters’ struggles deeply impactful. The heartbreak and triumphs are felt viscerally, drawing viewers into their personal journeys.
3. Unique and Beautiful Art Style
The contrast between the chibi-like character designs and the detailed, sometimes grotesque environments creates a striking aesthetic. Backgrounds are painted with stunning depth, making the Abyss feel alive and mysterious. Some may argue that the cute designs don’t match the dark tone, but this juxtaposition enhances the horror aspects. The innocence of the art style makes the brutal realities of the Abyss even more shocking, intensifying the emotional weight.
4. Haunting and Memorable Soundtrack
Kevin Penkin’s score is one of the best in modern anime, perfectly capturing the wonder, mystery, and horror of the Abyss. Tracks like “Underground River” and “Tomorrow” evoke both awe and dread, adding emotional layers to every scene. A good soundtrack enhances immersion, and Made in Abyss achieves this masterfully. The music isn’t just background noise; it’s an integral part of the storytelling, making key moments unforgettable.
5. Unflinching Dark Themes and Real Stakes
Unlike many adventure anime that protect main characters from real harm, Made in Abyss does not shy away from brutal consequences. The dangers of the Abyss feel real, and characters suffer physically and emotionally, making their survival all the more compelling. Some might find the darker elements disturbing, but this level of realism adds gravity to the story. Without real danger, the sense of adventure would feel hollow. The show respects its audience’s intelligence by not sugarcoating its themes.
One Reason Not to Watch Made in Abyss:
Intense and Potentially Disturbing Content
Made in Abyss explores extremely dark themes, including body horror, psychological trauma, and child endangerment. Some scenes are deeply unsettling, even for experienced anime fans. While the series is beautifully crafted, not everyone enjoys narratives that push emotional and psychological boundaries. If you prefer lighter, more optimistic storytelling, Made in Abyss may be too heavy. However, for those who can handle it, the emotional payoff is profound.
Will you watch Made in Abyss?
Made in Abyss is available on Netflix and Disney+.

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 3 review: Lorraine’s first adventure
So, Lorraine, who is worried about Rentt, contemplated sending out a search party for him. She recognised the knock on the door from him, which is nice, noticing that small level of detail, even down to the type of knock, shows just how well and close she is to him. The most amusing part is how she is looking at him more as a test-subject (due to her interest in existential evolution), instead of a friend in a very bad predicament. She agrees to take on jobs for him, which I’m suspecting would be the low-level ones.
<< Previous episode 02 Knock, knock, whose there. As Rentt went into town to get his sword fixed, he got weird looks, yup dressing weird can do that to you, still looks cool though. The blacksmith called three-pronged sword store cleric, from my observations, at once recognised Rentt, despite his get-up. She noted two things; only one other person can use spirit, magic and divinity. Is close to Lorraine. I like how she didn’t probe any further, as it is very obvious, she realised who it is. Meanwhile, Lorraine is researching ghouls, concluding that our main character is a special case, noting that his personality isn’t lost upon death – which is the key aspect I’m guessing. Whilst thinking back of their time when she first met him. I’m guessing a great doctor is more of an herbalist, as that’s what she achieved at such a young age, plus silver rank automatically.
I haven’t either Lorraine!!!, they are just dead! This sounds like some pokemon levellingI do think it is amusing he is called a pack carrier when first started out as an iron rank. Which kind of funny as well, since I consider myself as a pack carrier, I got this backpack with straps, whenever me and my friend go out to town, I always have it with me, in case we stop into some shops, just dump the items in my backpack and off we go on our merry way.
One shot everything is the MC’s job after allI just did!Looking at the flashback, young Lorraine and Rentt make a cute couple. Funny thing about Rentt and myself, we’re both self-reliant. We both do what is necessary without asking. Like when she was getting herbs, he just did it without being told what to look for and how to properly place them. She quickly realises that he is way more capable than he lets on, when a goblin attacked them, and bloody hell never mind overpowered male characters, I’ve got a overpowered female character, who just one shotted a goblin – and being inexperienced to boot!
Totally ship them!!!Clope, the blacksmith was curious as to who this “mysterious” person is as a test, he shook hands with our main boy. At once realizing (but without) making a fuss as to who it is. They are very much concerned about Rentt and his current predicament. Just like him, I also don’t want others to worry or cause any troubles to others. Being considerate, has its downside. It gives the impression that you don’t trust others. That’s not intended. I’m guessing I’ll be seeing more of Clope in the future.
Who are you people!!Rentt can cook but I can’t. Sadage. He and Lorraine discuss his next step, which is to hit the next level of existential evolution, so back to the grind, yeah with anything, it’s always a grind. Yup, when I wanted the best slot item, in that MMORPG, I had to grind. Made being in a party whilst you grinded fun, when you’re doing it on your own, I guess blasting Spotify music to help with the doldrum grind is a thing. Anyway, he heads back to the labyrinth when he comes across a newbie. Turns out this newbie is a chef who is in debt. Didn’t want to help out, but it looked like he wanted to avoid blood, as the scene was putting some emphasis on the chef’s injury.
Takes him to where the dragon was first encountered, but no such luck when they spotted a small unexplored passage. The chef, being impatient, went ahead, but our main guy saw the teleportation circle in advance. Key theme running throughout the series, Rentt asking himself, is he a monster or a human. He decides to follow the chef, only to meet a boss.
Take the risk, better help insurance too (not)Really can’t wait to see how the next episode is. I’m really enjoying the series, despite its slow pacing. With this episode it gives more backstory to Rentt and Lorraine and how they met.
Got what Rentt? Thanks for stopping by, till the next post!

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 2 review: The knight’s daughter
Alright continuing on from the last episode, where our main lead Rentt has managed to reach existential evolution to a ghoul, spending most of his time in the labyrinth just grinding on his own, kind of like me, that mmorpg I play.
<< Previous episode 01 Too right, don’t let a lowly skeleton beat you Rina!Just then he notices the young rookie that was looking for someone to party up with from the last episode – nice continuity there. She is also solo levelling (no pun!) as well. I chuckled a bit when our boy stalked her in what could only be described as a typical zombie / ghoul manner. When she gets ambushed by a skeleton. Struggles a bit, however Rentt stepped in as a distraction for the mob.
Rentt’s expertise and ability to distinguish between good and bad adventurers allowed the guild to retain him despite his lowly status, because of his ability to help newbie adventurers, helped maintain the guild’s good reputation. That is similar between me and Rentt, we both help out newbies, with me in that mmo. I used to send bags, give tips etc.
Rina Rupuaage is the rookie adventurer. The fact that he attempted to speak to her in the most distorted ghoulish language amused me. Seriously, Rina having doubts about a ghoul just coming up to her, helping her, even telling her that he is the “missing” adventurer and all he wants is some clothes and dumps a whole bag of gold to boot, even I would be suspicious.
Our boy has learned, his undead status has made him stronger than a human.
He remarks how, being this intuitive is what makes a high ranked adventurer, sadly he only gained these abilities as an undead. Rina brought back the goods, but they’re still not quite on the same page with their communication.
Anyway, holy mouldy, do them threads look good on my boy. Looks like a proper adventurer that doesn’t stick out, his coat is long enough to hide most of his body, except his face. Kind of like me, he has a soft spot for baggy clothes that can cover most parts of the body, hahaha. An issue does arise with his face, as it isn’t covered, so he gets a cheap mask. Not just any ordinary mask, no, no, it’s a special cursed mask variety.
Look at the nap sack of goodsDon’t be!!!This mask becomes iconic for him as he wears it in the light novel, there are some differences in their design. Rina is immediately saddened that she bought something so cheap, yet simply overlooked as the curse activates when it is worn, not just lugged around. Rentt being the nice guy, makes the most of it, at least it can be affected by divine magic. She then comes to the realisation, that he isn’t a bad gu..ghoul after all, even when I’m being a bit of a ghoul I ease on it, and just grunt .. wait .. he kind of does that in this form, huh.
Should have taken me around too!! need some good threads! The iconic getupThanks to the clothes, he’s able to leave the labyrinth. He also notes to Rina that being scared is actually a good thing as it keeps you alive. Obviously, noting on his own predicament, that adventurers have only one life. Is that a look of affection I see from her. Well, it looks like our undead hero still has that charm about him that draws decent people to him. Even though I contest this, my male childhood friend says the same thing about me. I have this charm that draws people in. Not quite getting the same level of affection from the ladies though. Anyway, Rentt thanks Rina for helping him out this time. Since helping an undead is an offence, she could lose her adventurer licence.
After getting in, he gives her the slip, whilst noting she looks after her cheap gear, talented, nevertheless. Knowing the feeling, he remarks talented adventurers like her left him, distantly similar to my own experience during my long tenure on my mmorpg. People left me behind basically. They made new friends, progressed on their goals in-game w/ friends etc. Partied up, basically.
ID’s please Rina, you look youngSo, the lady with the nice rack is called Lorraine. He knows she has a bit of a track record of being “weird” which doesn’t bother her. I do love the fact she didn’t panic when confronted with Rentt’s withered undead hand.
You awake? What a sleepy princessHonestly, I really enjoyed this episode. Sure, nothing much happened, besides confirming our boy will be overpowered in the future, the pacing felt right, it wasn’t rushed or anything. It was primarily designed to get Rentt out of the labyrinth and into what would be his iconic getup (damn he looks cool) throughout the light novel and series, also to introduce a possible love interest for him. Bets on Lorraine being the main squeeze

The Unwanted Undead Adventurer Episode 1 review: Being reborn as an undead
Being an undead is a grand old adventure!
What an introduction to the start of the series! Giving a brief overview of how Rentt came to be in his dire situation. Of course, the build up to that fateful encounter will be retold. I will say this, the opening Immortal by Juvenile is a right banger. Reading the English lyrics to it, I think any adult will understand and even sympathise with the meaning behind them. I certainly do “Even if they don’t match your ideal, chase your ambitions in your own way” sure the auto-tune makes it hard to understand what is said. I’m liking the art so far as well.
<< Previous episode 00 Rentt our main character and lowly bronze adventurer exploringRentt is a bronze class adventurer, I do like how he is giving some tidbits on the world and what he does. Even hinting at his scholar friend. He’s been a lowly bronze class adventurer for 10 years. And does things solo, thinking that he isn’t good enough to be in parties. I absolutely relate to Rentt. Spending years grinding away at something to not really make progress, compounded with the fact, having low esteem issues in thinking you’re not good enough to be in parties or work in groups, simply because the thinking is; it will slow down or hold back the group, or be a burden.
He does what I always do. Do things on your own. I do that a lot on the mmo I play. And yeah, people who ended up partying up with others, who started later than me, seeing people progressing a lot more and faster than me. I can understand the hidden frustration Rentt has.
Also, kind of like me, prudent with his earnings and has emergency backup if that fails – thought I’d throw that in there, to show just how independent he is. As Rentt explores the dungeon Labyrinth of the Moon’s Reflection, apparently there is a new one called that as well, just has “new” inserted before the moon. Some naming convention though. Anyway, going around marking his progress on the map, when he notices an unexplored path, that has emerged. Thinking he could score some sweet gold. He ventures forth only to come face to face with a dragon. I like the dragon design, it has this divine look to it. Also, I’ve read a small bit of the prologue to the light novel, stating that he couldn’t move, due to the sheer terror of facing the dragon.
Know the feeling of being broke ass RenttSo, all that is the recap of how Rentt came to be. I do like how he has this existential crisis when discovers that he came back as an undead skeleton. Getting purged and all that.
As Rentt stumbles around in his new skeleton form in the dungeon, he realises just how weak these undead creatures are. Being unable to even swing his sword at first. The comical bit that had me chuckle is when a random skeleton falls over just before getting to him. However, despite being an undead, he has retained some of the human skills, like spirit energy, mana, divine blessing. Using that he overpowered his new foe, and regained spirit energy. It is here, that his lovely scholar friend with a nice set of racks, explains that monsters have a trait that puts them above humans, existential evolution. By remembering this, he sets about gaining levels aka spirits to evolve into a ghoul.
Wise words indeed, Ms scholarWould have been funnier if they pointed at each otherMeanwhile his scholar friend is curious, slightly concerned about his absence. Rentt and I are somewhat adaptable, he quickly adapted to his situation by not really questioning it or not fretting as much on the situation and making the best out of the situation, aka trying to make gold even though he can’t really sell them, yet. This will be solved as he becomes a ghoul no doubt.
Foretelling words, however, those racksBack at the guild hall, a newbie is looking for a party to help her out. Sheila, the guild worker, recommended Rentt, however, concerns are starting to show, as he is that well known for helping out newbies. Whilst our main lead, has revealed that if you throw in his training, he’s been an adventurer for 20 years. His self-reflection is admirable, he knows he isn’t the best adventurer, and even thinks he should have quit, but he just couldn’t. Both of us, even when things look bleak, find it within ourselves to not give up. Or find a way to make things work. And that’s what Rentt did, not give up on his dream to be a mithril class adventurer, skeletal and all!
Bloody newbies taking up all the vets timeWith more levelling up he finally hit the jackpot! became a ghoul. Congrats my boy. I just found it funny how he tried to talk like a human despite being a newly evolved ghoul. Also can’t beat the fact the dude still wanted to make gold, even as a skeleton – shows how flat ass broke he is.
I’d say so too Rentt, looking all undead and rottingsparkly!!What are my final thoughts on episode 1?
Really enjoyed the first episode. The pacing was good, it didn’t rush as it focused on Rentt and his newly found situation and coming to terms with it. Fairly quickly I might add.
You’re nothing but ski…err bones and cloth thoughThanks for stopping by, till the next post!
