At the doctor's office today. (To be clear, the patient is me. )

They asked for my wife's birthdate. I asked why they wanted that info. They said they needed it because she's on my insurance plan.

I told them they were wrong--they most certainly do not 'need' it. I refused to give them the info.

The response was predictable. They acted like I was the unreasonable one.

Instead? The “Use personal data for AI development and training” setting was added, and everyone's account defaults to “Yes”. Without ever asking our informed, specific consent.

Wrong! Stop treating your customers like cattle to be farmed.

To turn off what should never have been turned on:

Go to accountsettings.ebay.com.au, select the “AI Training Preferences” option. Then turn off the toggle switch for “Use personal data for AI development and training”.

When you turn it off, the page displays a notification, “Opted out”. Acknowledgement that they default turned it on, requiring you to opt out. Arseholes.

@PattyHanson I think that's just the way the internet works. If you open a link to any site, the site has to know your ip address to send the page back to it. If you are worried about maybe use a VPN, but you have to trust the VPN.
