#artcontemporain #fondationlouisvuitton #jasperjohns #davidhammons #popart

It's funny and slightly embarrassing to revisit a CD I listened to probably well over a hundred times as a teenager and only now come to notice that it has a secret track. I'm talking about Medeski Martin and Wood's "Combustication," which I threw on after watching the recent David Hammons documentary, which features poetry and commentary by the legendary Steve Cannon. Cannon's voice and poetry likewise appear on the Combustication track "Whatever Happened to Gus."
Rambling post to eventually, belatedly say, rest in power Steve Cannon. I plan to spend some time getting to know his work better. Meanwhile, Combustication was never my favorite MMW, but mostly holds up, and "The Melt Goes on Forever: The Art and Times of David Hammons" is a good watch, despite being told mostly through the words of wealthy white gallerists and art speculators who leave a slightly tacky, rancid taste in the mouth.

David Hammons, Bliz-aard Ball Sale, 13 février 1983, Cooper Square, East Village, New York
