At one point in time, I had a more nuanced approach to the concept of military service. All branches of the armed forces stem off a rotting tree, preying upon poor people, Black and brown people, promising the possibility of stability while exchanging your literal life. An anecdote that is possibly not mine to tell: a friend of a friend getting approached whilst pushing carts in a grocery store parking lot? "Hey son, how's your relationship with your father?"

But I've come to realize, you add up all the broken homes, the push up competitions in every high school I ever attended, the suburban cosplayers giving themselves one man parades through the local shopping center regaling the employees with sick revenge fantasies against a people neither known nor guilty, you subtract your soul, your conscience, your morality, your will and it's really a quite simple arithmetic: fuck the army. Fuck America. Fuck this whole fetid fucking empire (and every other one, too.)

Lochlea single-cask Ex-Bourbon single malt at a healthy 60.2% ABV cask strength for Day 15.

I get some vanilla and green apple on the nose; more apples and pears on the palate, with some malt that lingers into the finish, which has some pepper-y, ginger-y heat from the alcohol. Nice and smooth, though, despite the strength. Lovely for a young whisky.
