This #Photo marks the end of my Day & Night series - 85 days of an image a day. Like the ultimate Gernsback Continuum artefact of a #Cyberpunk future that never happened, and with its demolition will never be, #NakaginCapsuleTower was patched, piped, & modified - a relic of #Japanese #Metabolism #Architecture. In the airport lounge that evening, we overheard #Boomers from my home town talking about their investment properties.

A photo from under an overhead expressway, looking up at Nakagin Capsule Tower. The building is a geometric collection of cubic blocks, in a semi-organic arrangement, each block has a round window, half the diameter of the entire face. There are two pointed spires, one higher than the other, atop the two main masses of the building, and a large plinth base, floating a story above street level. The plinth has a long window running along its length, as if it’s a single big enclosed communal space for the residents.

On one window, someone has stuck up pies of paper, triangles for eyes, and a row of teeth, making the window look like a giant jack-o-lantern, as Halloween was in two days.

Walking through the rain on our last day, looking for #Photo opportunities, and snatching some final sights of Tokyo. Then in the distance, something I had desperately wanted to see, but forgotten to put on the itinerary in the rush to organise everything else. An apparition through the drizzle, the instantly recognisable collection of squares and circles. The masterpiece of #Japanese #Metabolism - #NakaginCapsuleTower

A busy traffic intersection in the day. The road is slick with rain. A raised freeway curves in from the left to the centre of frame, then back out into the distance. At the peak of the curve, in the distance, is Nakagin Capsule Tower - a stack of cubes, with round windows, dwarfed by surrounding buildings.

Hoo boy, this #Photo was a compositional compromise. Barely a perpendicular pair of lines in the whole thing. It probably won't make the cut for an exhibition of my #Japanese images, but I'm posting it here for the colours of light from the shop washing over the beautiful dark green cast iron.
