Yesterday we were still making fun of Bluesky. The “decentralized” service’s control center is already down. So, someone is lying here. Either the prefix De- before central means something completely different from what hundreds of generations have assumed. Or the tech bros around Steve Bannon and Bluesky are lying? I don’t know. #bluessky #decentral #liar #central #activitypub #eu

Nip it in the bud. The reactionary dismantling of the federated Internet.
There is a huge outcry about the fact that a discussion forum was held at the CCC’s Chaos Congress to discuss the possibilities of centralizing and censoring the federated Internet. https://events.ccc.de/congress/2024/hub/de/event/fediverse-governance-fishbowl-diskussion/
Now, the #Chaos in Chaos Computer Club stands for chaos (get it?) and not for order and cleanliness. If I had wanted surveillance and law and order, I would have joined the CDU or become a cop. It is also impressive that the independent Internet is referred to as “radical anarchism” and that is obviously a bad thing. And now we don’t know exactly what a non-radical anarchism would look like? With a king? Or a police state?
And what I always ask myself in the face of such authoritarian outbursts is: who then makes the rules that we are supposed to follow? Usually it is the fantasies of omnipotence of those who demand it. But why should we follow them? Where does the authority to decide for others come from?
In “Radical Enlightenment A world of open sources” this question is also asked: Freedom, our greatest good? https://word.undeadnetwork.de/freiheit-unser-hochstes-gut
In this context, @tuxwise criticizes the discovery plan of the Mastodon project. Quite rightly, I must say. https://github.com/mastodon/fediverse_auxiliary_service_provider_specifications/issues/46
In summary, I think both #Mastodon and #CCC are great things that I have actively supported for many years. And that is why these reactionary, authoritarian tendencies must be strongly opposed! The FOSS community has been creating tools to do just that from the very beginning! NIP IT IN THE BUD!

@zvavybir
You raise an important issue with the #decentral / #federation idea of the #fediverse.
The concentration of power might become an increasing issue looking into the future. If, e.g., #Mastodon gGmbH decided to threaten blocking #instances unless they remove certain users, content...
Thinking about switching there are concerns of losing: SEO-wise, reach, contacts/followers, character & poll limit (😜)...

#Misskey seems to have a "fairer" signup process

@nlnet Thanks for forwaring this. In my survey, I stressed the importance of reliable #infrastructure that is #accessible to all as #FOSS can provide it. Also challenging the #EU to step up for open standardizations and interoperable infrastructure in a #decentral #market - both for data and software. As I see it, funding in this area will increase cyber-#resilience at least and additionally secure self-governance and #sovereignity in all sectors: #politics, #economy, #society.
@Castopod is rolling out a #plugin interface, already documented. This opens up a lot of freedom for users and developers to customize the #podcast platform. Now, you cannot only self-host but small improvements for your use-case do not need to go through the main development process any more. Faster and #decentral development ahead!
Some of the open feature requests are surely a case for plugins!

Did you know how lame TCP/IP (unicast) is? Yes the thing you use all the time. #Librecast (multicast) is just so much better! I absolutely love 😍 every improvement it brings: #ClimateFriendly #PrivacyRespecting #Decentral #Efficient #Scalable

#Quellkod auf #Codeberg: „A #decentral #federated small #trade #platform“

What I really can't understand, is that open source projects often use #proprietary #Discord @elk you build an open source client for the open source #decentral network #Mastodon . Why do you not offering a decentral chat room like @matrix #Matrix #redecentralize
Briar really looks good at first glance. I will look into that.

3 basic Fediverse principles:
#fediverse #dotsocial #dotonline #semanticweb
#nomonopoly #decentral #innovation #fair
#Tumblr to add support for #ActivityPub, the social protocol powering #Mastodon and other #Fediverse apps #FediverseApps #decentral #redecentralize
@kolossus #Threema und #Signal sind auch zentralisierte Systeme Wir brauchen #dezentral e #Messenger wie #Matrix und #XMPP #redecentralize #decentral #Fediverse #Mastodon #Friendica #Diaspora #Hubzilla #Pixelfed #PeerTube etc.
