So, it seems Threads is blocking links to mainstream left-wing political parties in France while allowing links to right-wing parties, even allowing links to far right parties:

Worth reading the whole thread:
- This is happening just before French elections
- Links to left wing parties used to work, but now don't
- OP's posts which previously linked to left wing parties now removed
- OP's account suspended without explanation
And to be clear, these are mainstream left wing parties being blocked. It's the equivalent of blocking the Democrats in the US or Labour in the UK.
Meta is apparently intimidating Brazilian researchers to deter them from looking too deeply at ads and disinformation:
"This is an attack on scientific research work, and attempts at intimidation of researchers ... especially with regard to paid content that causes harm to consumers ... and that threaten the future of our democracy."
Also:
"In 2021 ... Meta disabled the accounts of researchers at NYU’s Ad Observatory Project... Those involved denounced the social network's account cutoff as an attempt to stifle legitimate research into disinformation."
The people behind Threads yet again using deceptive (and potentially illegal) practices to collect people's personal data without their permission:
"...Meta's new privacy policy basically says that the company wants to take all public and non-public user data that it has collected since 2007 and use it for any undefined type of current and future 'artificial intelligence technology,."
"...once their data [is] in the system, users seem to have no option of ever having it removed."
It is extremely dangerous to trust Meta. Please defederate Threads.
Old enough to remember when the official Mastodon site used to promote a diverse range of small instances, and made fun of Meta instead of collaborating with it.

Instead, we now have a front page telling people to sign up on mastodon.social, an instance list that prioritises large instances, and a blog gushing over how wonderful it is to see Meta federating with them.
Greatly appreciate the work Eugen has done, but his current direction of travel is deeply worrying.

The Fedi.Garden website is now updated, with an additional rule:
"No federation with any organisation cited in multiple reports of massacres or genocides"
This means blocking Meta/Facebook/Threads, and all other similarly dubious organisations if they set up Fediverse instances. All servers which federate with Threads have been removed from the fedi.garden list.

I'm on a solo instance for now, but I've blocked threads.net on the principle that nothing Facebook does can possibly be anything but pure corporate evil.
I'd really hope instance admins with actual number of people on them do the same.
