Ceanothus sanguineus, red-stemmed ceanothus. Many tiny white pentangular flowers arranged in panicles. Ceanothus occurs all up and down the west coast of North America, but you are likely more familiar with the blue-violet species from warmer areas. They have floral/honey frangrances but this one is ... just odd. Not like anything else and you couldn't really call it pleasant. I read that it's hard to propagate, too. All that makes it much less interesting to commerce.

Delphinium nuttallianum, upland larkspur. Against a background of silver and grey-silver-green grasses, a stem of six flowers. Each has five sepals that resemble petals, a gorgeous bright cobalt blue, a long nectar spur sticking out of the back of the flower, and a "bee" in front of the sepals. The bee is made op of the actual petals, two of which are turned upward, white with blue veining, and the others turned down, deeper blue with fuzz on them, curled around to protect the stamens.

Crataegus douglasii, Douglas Hawthorn. Several simple with flwoers with yellow stamen rising in a cluster from a reddish brown twig. Fresh new green foliage is visible. The background is blurred green.

They have five petals, intense electric blue, and a "bee" in the middle, a pair of modified petals possibly meant to attract pollinators by looking vaguely like something they want to mate with. The flwoers are arranged on a spike, and there a few linear leaves visible.

Dicentra formosa, Dutchman's Breeches. Closely related to the Bleeding Hearts one sees in gardens, but rather than being clump-forming it is rampageously invasive.
Against a blurry BG of leaves, a cluster of drooping flowers. Each is dull pink and shaped vaguely like a heart, but with two "wings" sticking out the bottom, and an infant seed pod emerging from the point.

An all round posy arrangement in shades of peach, blue, cream and pale pink. The flowers used were roses, chrysanthemum, gentian, deliphium and lisianthus with a mix of eucalyptus, pistache and euonymous foliages.

The pet shop in Brecon had some lovely big pots of perennials outside which I admired greatly but did not dare ask the price. I went to walk off but then thought I might as well ask. I was expecting about £20, they were £6.80, peat free too. Needless to say I bought 4 including this beauty #delphinium

#Delphinium 'Pacific Giants'. Frank Reinelt created a group of hybrids of D. elatum with D. nudicaule in the 1930s, with double flowers dense on the spike. Since then the genetics has regressed closer to the wild forms, so it's a bit hit and miss what you'll get growing from seed. If you want to get dependable results choose one of the named selections grown as clones.
