It may not look like much at first glance, but the details! Purple #window frames, intricate patterns, grass growing on the facade 😊

This listed building in #Bitterfeld is used by the local district court

A low-angle shot showcases the detailed brickwork of a historic building against a vibrant blue sky with scattered white clouds. The building is constructed from orange-red bricks with lighter, sandy-coloured brick accents forming decorative patterns around the windows and along the roofline. Two prominent rectangular windows with multiple panes and light-coloured frames are visible on the lower level. Above, a smaller, arched window with similar framing is centred within the triangular gable. A decorative stone or brick element featuring the year "1890" is positioned above the arched window. The roof is tiled in a darker reddish-brown. The architectural style suggests a late 19th-century construction.

#Doorsday bloody Doorsday ... 💀 Oh, let's go!

I am happy to report that my trip to #Augsburg last week was a treasure trove for anyone who loves #doors (aka yours truly)! I only had an hour to explore the old town, but I found so many lovely doors. So behold, here's a badass one! ☠️

This is a #door of the #Stadtmetzg. Can you guess what this listed #historicBuilding used to be? It was built in 1609 as the #butchers' guildhall! I imagine it was deemed too refined for the messy process of slaughtering (this was done in the vicinity), but it was used as a central butchery to store and distribute meat to the city's butchers, using the Lech canal underneath to cool the meat in the basement and dispose of the waste.

The site burned down in 1634 and was rebuilt. In 1720 the Academy of Art moved into the upper floors (very random, I know). With the industrialization, the Stadtmetzg was losing importance and in 1930 it permanently closed. After renovations, it was used as an administrative building by the city of Augsburg. In WWII it was severely damaged, but once again restored. Today it is still in use as an administrative building.

Sorry for the long post, there's just so much to tell. 🫣 To any Augsburgers out there: I hope I got the facts straight!

A close-up shows a grand, arched doorway of a historic stone building, the Stadtmetzg in Augsburg. Heavy, dark wooden double doors are framed by intricately carved grey stone. Above the arch, ornate ironwork features a central floral motif. Flanking the doorway are stone pilasters topped with weathered bull skull carvings. A decorative stone pediment sits above the architrave. The building's facade is a mix of pale yellow and grey stone.

#TrainTrackTuesday: Remember the #abandonedRailway track in the woods I showed you a couple of weeks ago? This photo is from the same line in a different part of #Biederitz. This 500m (0.3mi) #railroadBridge across the Elbe floodplain and the Ehle river has become a listed #bridge and even has its own Wikipedia page (in German). It was built in 1846 and large parts of it are still original. It was closed in 1998 and is now barricaded due to deterioration, but the bridge continues to be a prominent landmark in the area. You can spot it in the background of some of my sunset photos. 😉

A low-angle perspective shows a set of disused railway tracks stretching into the distance. The tracks are made of rusty metal rails laid upon weathered wooden sleepers, many of which are covered in green moss or lichen. The tracks curve slightly to the left as they recede towards the horizon. To the right of the tracks, a rusty metal railing runs alongside, with bare trees and dry, brown fields visible beyond. On the left, similar fields and a few more bare trees are present. The sky above is partly cloudy, with patches of blue visible through the grey and white clouds. The overall scene has a somewhat desolate and abandoned feel.
