The president also encouraged a violation of regulations. Trump, himself a convicted felon, doesn’t care about rules and laws, but active-duty military members are not allowed to attend political rallies in uniform. They are not allowed to express partisan views while on duty, or to show disrespect for American elected officials. Trump may not know these rules and regulations, but the officers who lead these men and women know them well. It is part of their oath, their credo, and their identity as officers to remain apart from such displays. Young soldiers will make mistakes. But if senior officers remain silent, what lesson will those young men and women take from what happened today?

Last week on my way to Augsburg, my train passed through my hometown #Dessau. This is part of its railway station. There was a legendary club/live music venue in one of these buildings, but it closed in 2017. It always makes me sad when I drive by the club's logo (which will happen again on Friday when we visit the fam for Easter). 🥲

One interesting side-effect of using decent cameras for A While is that older photos become unstuck from time - perfectly clear, immaculately preserved digital captures of a particular time and place.

Tangentially, it reminds me of this: "Suddenly, the desolation, the solitude, became unendurable. While that voice sounded, London had still seemed alive. Now suddenly, there was a change, the passing of something – and all that remained was this gaunt quiet.", which seems apt.
