My Mistakes: 1. Digital Asset Management
This isn’t how it was meant to be. No-one excited about the web in the late ’90s pictured an attention industry commodifying our consciousness to power a surveillance economy spying on us from birth, trading our data to segment & silo us, target adverts, propaganda and flagging pre-crime potential. That was my first big mistake, but many made that one so it’s not that interesting. And if Clay Shirky’s right, we’re 2/3s of the way thru the web’s chaos; Act 3 is yet to come…
But every so often I think of Douglas Adams’ 3 rules of tech and imagine what I might sound like to anyone who’s only known smart phones and social media…

Hier verwende ich die Bilddatenbank "digiKam" seit einiger Zeit testweise als Alternative für ein kommerzielles System und bin sehr zufrieden. Mit den wenigen Einschränkungen kann ich ganz gut leben und bin auf dem Sprung, den Wechsel zu "digiKam" ganz zu vollziehen.

Instead I procrastinated and started another project:
I am currently using Excire Foto as a digital asset manager. Running on Win10. With Win11 coming - which I would really hate to use - I installed digiKam. I wanted to see if I can survive without Windows.
Comparing Excire to digiKam so far showed a better performance for Exire. Ok, yet I have to setup an Linux maschine to test digiKam in its native habitat.
And to make it clear - I have no aversion to paying for software - If I could buy Excire for Linux.
Same goes for Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher. This will be another post.
