Weekly reminder:
#AltText is a great thing and adding it to images can help ppl with vision issues participate.
But.
Excluding ppl who don't use AltText by intentionally leaving them out of discourse is an #abelist stance that directly excludes some #neurodivergent ppl.
Telling neurodivergent ppl who can't describe images in words that they have to 'overcome' their processing issues to be considered worthy of interaction is also an abelist stance.
Demanding that they use AI or charity to be included is an abelist stance, tho it is often well intentioned. "But it would be easier for you to be our friend if you brought a sign interpreter" would be pretty rude to say to someone in the deaf community yeah? Same same here.
Alt text is great. I use it. But we need to stop #bullying and #discriminating against those who can't.
