Since my old #TV is dying I am looking for a new #television this black friday. I am currently doing a final check for some of the most interesting offers. And one thing I noticed only now is that apparently #Hisense #65U8Q has a #DisplayPort input 😍 Not mentioned in specs on the product page or on DisplaySpecifications web page. Just shown on one photo, and I found a YT video testing it. Looks like an awesome TV for a #Linux PC with #AMD #Radeon GPU ( #HDMI Forum does not allow 2.1 support).

Didn't knew this about HDMI?
Doesn't go against #eu intention to use #standard #connectors for all the devices?.

#displayport is a much better option.

The EU should #ban #HDMI on new devices.

I’ve been trying to clean up my desk cabling. I have an #LG 5k Ultrawide going to a #Level1Techs #DisplayPort 1.4 KVM which in turn plugs into a Mac mini and a #CalDigit TS4 dock for a MacBook Pro. TS4 sits on top of the KVM, so it only needs a very short cable. IN THEORY!

I’ve tried 3 brands of 6 1.5ft DP 2.1 cables and none of them work. Some will not provide any video despite the laptop seeing the monitor connected. Some give a few seconds of video before either blanking or giving static.

I couldn't sleep last night so I wrote an an extremely simple IOS app allowing an iPhone 17 Pro to display the web browser in the native resolution of an external display.

Then I discovered artificial limitations with keyboard and mouse input on an external display.

I figured having a pocket-able thin-client with wireless input and wearable displays was a solved case based on the technology stack.

I wrote a perhaps snarky feature request in Apple's community support forum - which got removed.

Wrote a nicer version here:

Any advice on next steps?

Replaced my monitors with new ones that support #DisplayPort daisy-chaining, in the hopes of letting one of them be a KVM switch between my personal and work computers.

...turns out, merely enabling MST (the standard behind daisy-chaining) on the 2nd is enough to knock it out, even if the 3rd isn't even connected... bleh.

DisplayPort 2.1 mi, HDMI 2.1 mi? Oyuncular için 80 Gbps DisplayPort, ev sineması için eARC'li HDMI öne çıkıyor. Sizin tercihiniz ne?

So my secondary #Monitor in my #DualMonitor setup, stopped working.😢
It would seem the #Asus VG248QE #DisplayPort controller chip has gone bad & will no longer link.
So I'm down to 1 screen Asus VG278QR.
Good news the #HDMI Port on the VG248QE still works but HDMI only does 85Hz refresh rate, the DP port did 144Hz.
So I will give it to my mom's setup.
The timing just suck as I'm low on $ right now & my next monitor is going to be Asus XG27AQMR

A wide dual‑monitor desk setup glows with neon RGB lighting. On the left, an Asus VG278 shows a KDE Plasma desktop with a neon wallpaper, casting blue and purple light across the desk. On the right, the Asus VG248QE tilts forward, its screen dominated by large glitchy red text reading “DISPLAYPORT LINK FAILURE,” surrounded by a pulsing red aura with static bands and pixel noise. The contrast between the bright, working primary monitor and the failing secondary makes the dead screen unmistakable. Below, an RGB mechanical keyboard cycles colors, and a glowing mouse rests on the desk. The dark background features faint circuit board patterns and scrolling green terminal code, enhancing the cyberpunk mood. At the bottom, bold white text reads: “EVERY SETUP LOSES A SOLDIER.”

OpenBSD 7.8 was released today (October 22, 2025). This is the 59th release.

I'm looking over the changelog and don’t see anything mentioning audio over DisplayPort.

I would switch to OpenBSD today — right now — if I could use it to run virtual machines. My needs are very minimal. I just need basic audio and video within a VM, mostly for running a web browser, which I primarily use for work (I work for Meta).

Personally, I use VMs for retro gaming. We're talking about 15 to 25-year-old classics that don't rely heavily on 3D acceleration. The most "intense" games I'd play are Black & White 1 and 2, for example. In other words, they don’t require GPU pass-through or advanced hardware acceleration — software rendering via the CPU is generally sufficient.

So I imagine the most demanding everyday use would be streaming videos through a web browser. It's kind of wild that modern web browsing uses more resources than those old games, but that really does seem to be the case.
