It took me months, but I *finally* have DMR working, complete with my own hotspot even.
There's one thing I haven't been able to sort out. I've got a Radtel RT-4D that I'm programming with their CPS.
I have a few zones (Nebraska, Colorado, USA EmComm, "DMR" (everything else), Analog, and NCF).
No matter what I do, if a transmission comes through on any talkgroup my Brandmeister setup is configured for, it starts playing. It doesn't matter what channel or zone I have selected. I've got Dual Display set to Single, Dual Standby to Off, Standby Area to B (with range B set to 146.52 analog). I set my zone and get to my "NE Primary" channel (TG 3131), but I still get audio for North America (TG 93).
I can't imagine that all of DMR is set up to have everything try to play, so I figure it's gotta be something on my handset, my Pi-Star, or my Brandmeister config. I'm leaning toward the handset, but I'm not finding anything that changes it.
Anyone out there run into this and know what setting I need to tweak?

Turns out call setup over a network with FOACSU is just as difficult as I imagined. I can't even begin to express my feelings towards ETSI for not including ServiceKind in the C_ACKU payload. Had they done so, life would have been much easier.

In case you haven't noted, Radio ID is now only TX'ing the first names. This is as intended, and on BM you will only see this.

I still see a lot of statements from amateur radio operators that #DMR doesn't have good support for #packet-data transport.
I think these opinions are based on what capabilities are (not) implemented by cheaper vendors instead of looking at the standard and what more established vendors do.
I've been trying lately to dispel this myth (and thanks to @n8gnj for publishing my comments in ZeroRetries). In fact, the support for data transfer in DMR is pretty comprehensive.

Development of a homebrew #DMR #trunking protocol is proceeding as planned.

Очень быстро привыкаешь к рациям. Взаимодействие через рации с селективным вызовом начинает казаться самым естественным способом связи.
Коробит (воспринимается неприемлемым), когда нужная связь потенциально зависит от внешних вещей. Какого-то там оборудования оператора, денег на счёте и т.п. херни с кучей подключённых услуг и работы биллинга. Когда некто может что-то из этого выключить по каким-то причинам или ради каких-то соображений.
Будущее за индивидуальными системами связи, как селективный вызов в рациях. Рации давно перестали быть чисто аналоговыми устройствами. Теперь и SMS-ки друг другу слать умеют и можно видеть было ли сообщение доставлено на устройство адресата. Цифровые ретрансляторы появились (в DMR два time-слота), в таком же формате как и wi-fi роутеры.
Детали и технические аспекты реализации не так важны. В сравнении с зависимостью от работоспособности и доброй воли кого-то там в операторских сетях. Если чисто технически не подходит #DMR (использующий TDMA), так пусть будет CDMA в некой полосе частот. Да хоть импульсной передачей сообщений, когда в эфире сигнал транслируется передатчиком по времени меньше, чем звучит сказанное в микрофон.
Микропроцессоры и микроконтроллеры современные позволяют и хорошо кодировать от помех и сжимать аудиопотоки данных.
