Dingle’s Gentle Sentinel

Many years ago while travelling on the Dingle Peninsula we came across a donkey in a field in Muiríoch. I posted a photo of him in 2007 and again in 2008 but I happened to come across this photo of him and did a little work on the photo.

There’s a chance this donkey is still alive. Hopefully he’s well cared for and enjoying his elder years.

2/2 : L'arrivée
For six months, Nabila Halim and I went out to meet the residents of the town of Longwy.
During our meetings, they told us stories, asked questions, and shared their experiences of their relationships with others.
This work is conceived as an echo chamber, a more or less realistic and sensitive reflection of the residents of this very special town: a cross-border land, a land of immigration, a land of hope and abandonment.
From their words, we drew seven major themes: arrival in Longwy, racism, the Algerian War, factory closures, memories, home, and finally, the relationship with the Other today. This last theme emerged from our encounters, but also from those made by the students at Vauban College when they set out to find residents, criss-crossing their town and conducting short interviews with passers-by.
More info: the previous feed shows the daily journal of this residency. A lot of work was also done and documented via stories (see featured story): encounters, preparation of the exhibition, etc.

A black-and-white panoramic view of a district heating power plant located near a body of water. Several smokestacks emit white smoke into the cloudy sky, while large industrial buildings, pipes, and electrical infrastructure dominate the scene. The surrounding forest provides a contrasting natural backdrop, emphasizing the facility’s role in energy production and its environmental presence.

Bishop Lucey’s Pigeon

If there’s one thing that was a constant in the old Bishop Lucey Park in Cork it was the pigeons. They swarmed over the old city wall where humans were denied because of a fence around it. Sometimes the wall was thick with them, waiting for a child to come along and scream and laugh at them as they flew into the air in panic.

Mobile Appetite

One of the food trailers at the Skibbereen market on the day I visited in 2019 was “Little Green Shoot”. They’re on Facebook, but haven’t updated since 2020 so they may not be operating any more. A lot has happened since then.

The Bright Side of the Streets

I have a good reason for photographing this perfectly ordinary scene. Over the years I’ve taken photos of men sitting on that electricity box, and this just adds to that collection.

First there was this photo of Liam Foley, an elderly man enjoying a cigarette. He passed away 2 months after that photo was taken. I was glad I could pass on that photo to his family.

Then a few years later, yet another photo of a man enjoying a cigarette.

And now, many years later, a photo of a man about to roll a cigarette.

I like what they did with the door and the mural. Lovely to see the colour there.
