How close is your agency to failing and what does that look like?

My agency (SSA) is probably going to fail in the next 2 months. We lost too many people, we're closing offices, there are too many policy changes so the time we used to spend doing work is now spent on having meetings and trainings about rapid be policy changes. It would've been one thing if they would've created AI tech to replace us then let go the ones that aren't needed. Nothing has been modernized or simplified to justify the carnage. There's no question about whether people will get their claims processed timely, they won't, they are complicating, not simplifying the processes. However, DOGE recklessly trying to migrate the legacy systems to Java will cause at least some people to miss checks, maybe 15% of recipients, maybe all of them. The scary part is there's not going to be anyone left to fix the problem.

What will the civil service look like 4 years from now?

Looking around, I’m starting to wonder what the federal workforce will even be in four years —assuming things stay on their current trajectory. Do you think it’ll just be a bunch of tween tech bros and AI chatbots left?Morale is gone, the most experienced staff are retiring or checking out, and all we seem to get in return is vague talk about “innovation,” “efficiency,” and “modernization”—usually from people who’ve never spent a day actually delivering government services.Be honest: are we headed for a civil service made up of nothing but tech bros, contractors, and AI chatbots? Or is there still a future here for people who actually know how the government works?

The Department has operated many administrative functions at the Bureau level. While this has served us well, we recognize the need for a more streamlined approach to enhance our efficiency and effectiveness. To facilitate this, we will be realigning relevant positions within Human Resources from the Bureau level to the Department level, effective May 4, 2025. This unification is part of a broader effort to consolidate several Departmental functional areas, allowing us to optimize resources and improve service delivery .Please note that no geographic moves will occur as part of this realignment, and your daily work will largely remain the same. There will be a transition period after the unification becomes effective where you can expect some administrative changes, including the adoption of a new DOI email address and the issuance of new PIV cards. I hate when people use the word "pedophile" for everything they don't like, not realizing true pedophillia is actually fairly rare. 3% of the population last time I read the SAMHSA and APA joint report. It's not prevalent. 40% of child molestation is from pedophillic predation and the rest is abuse from family or someone the child know. So it's not an epidemic. Is it bad? yes. It is.
