The former HMS Graham on Whitefield Road in the Ibrox area of Glasgow. Constructed in 1905, it was built as a drill hall and headquarters for Clyde Division of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve. It continued in its naval role until 1993. It was then taken over by the 205 Field Hospital, an army reserve unit, who still use it to this day

Formed in 1872, the team was named after the 3rd Lanarkshire Rifles as its players were all members of this regiment. This included Wilson, who as well as being an architect, was the team's striker and scored their first ever goal.

This rather unusual-looking building in sitting in between two traditional sandstone tenements on Berkeley Street in the West End of Glasgow is a former Victorian military Drill Hall for the City of Glasgow Battery, 3rd Lowland Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery. It's one a number of Victorian and early Edwardian-era drill halls around the city, many of which have quite distinctive and unique architectural designs.

The castle-like entrance to Glasgow School of Art's Haldane Building on Hill Street. It was originally built in 1897 as a drill hall and headquarters for the 1st Volunteer Batallion of the Highland Light Infantry, and was designed by the wonderfully named Horatio K. Bromhead.

This building on Jardine Street has always struck me as an unusual style to find amongst the sandstone tenements of the West End of Glasgow. It's a military drill hall that was originally built in 1894 for the Lanarkshire Royal Engineers Volunteers. It's now the headquarters of the 32 Signal Regiment.

Former Drill Hall for the City of Glasgow Battery, 3rd Lowland Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery on Berkeley Street in Glasgow. Drill halls were relatively common in Glasgow in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and there are four still standing just in the West End alone. Like this one, the others are also architecturally distinct from their neighbouring buildings.

I hadn't realised until very recently quite how many former drill halls there are in Glasgow. A lot of them seem to have quite distinct architectural styles, possibly resulting from a tendency for the military to get volunteers to design them rather than pay outside architects.

135 Berkeley Street in the west end of Glasgow.

This is an intriguing little building that I pass a lot while out running. It differs compeletly in architectural style from the tenements on either side, and I'd always assumed this was because it served as a Sikh Gurdwara. However, I found out today that it was originally built in the early 1900s as a military drill hall.
