The Conclusion

Idea for this started as a Rob Roy and kind of ran away from there. Dry Curaçao in place of vermouth, orange bitters for more flavour, and just a bit of coffee extract to add bitterness to the drink.
My goal when making drinks is to end up with something that’s not just good, but better than the sum of its parts and this one is definitely it for me.

1.5 oz Single Malt Whisky @madlabspirits
1/2 oz Dry Curaçao @sonsofvancouver
1-2 dashes Orange Bitters @scrappysbitters
Scant bar spoon (less than 5ml) coffee extract @blindowlflavours

Stir with ice and double strain into a rocks glass over a large chunk of ice. Garnished with a dehydrated orang wheel.

The Gin Drink

Wanted to make a stirred drink to see how my @barebarrel cocktail set would work with it. Found a recipe on Diffords and played around with it a bit to make this! Gives me an almost burnt caramel flavour but without any of the super sugary feel you’d normally get with that flavour.

2 oz Barrel Aged Gin @raincitydistillery
1/2 oz Barrel Aged Curaçao @sonsofvancouver
2 dashes Cardamom Bitters @feebrothersofficial
1 bar spoon simple syrup

Add ingredients to a mixing tin with ice and stir to chill and combine. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass and express orange oils from a peel over top. Garnished with a dehydrated orange wheel @limeygarnish

What About Love?

Played around with an old pal, wanting to make a valentines drink involving crème de cacao and whiskey. The Campari and a bit of saline help balance out the sweetness of the crème de cacao, and the vanilla extract brings everything together.

1.75 oz Rye Whisky @albertapremium
1/4 oz Crème de Cacao @mcguinnessmix
1/4 oz Campari @campariofficial
3 drops Saline Solution
Scant bar spoon (1/8 tspn) of Vanilla Extract @blindowlflavours

Add to a mixing glass with ice and stir and strain. Serve with a piece of good quality dark chocolate.

Lover’s Warmth

Named for that warm heat you feel at the end of the sweet drink thanks to the chili vodka.
I started the idea for this drink as a clarified Brandy Alexander, but started swapping components and ended up here. A sweet chocolate liqueur that has an almost citrus taste thanks to the lemon juice and amaretto, with a subtle heat at the very end.

9.5 oz Rye @albertapremium
4.25 oz Crème de Cacao @mcguinnessmix
1.5 oz Amaretto @disaronno_official
1.5 oz Chili Vodka @sonsofvancouver
11 dashes Aztec Chocolate Bitters @feebrothersofficial
21 drops Saline Solution
5.5 oz Milk
2.75 oz Lemon Juice

Add everything to a container and let sit overnight to curdle. Strain through a filter, doesn’t matter what so long as it’s fine enough to hold the curds. The curds act like sand and are the main filtering agent of this. Once you start filtering through, take the first bit and add it back through so it has a chance to go through the curd filter.
Bottle the resulting liquid, serve chilled with dark chocolate.

Dracula's Nightcap

½ oz lemon juice
¼ oz simple syrup
½ oz red beet juice
¾ oz tawny port
1½ oz mezcal reposado
2 dashes Angostura bitters

Garnish: salt rim
Method: Salt the coupe with black salt. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and stir with ice. Double strain into coupe.

An original of mine. I consider it a margarita riff and got inspired by the carrot-based Power Up Technique (look through my profile). It's very earthy, which pairs well with the mezcal. Plus, the color makes it perfect for Halloween!

Pupule -aka- Nui Nui

¾ oz lime juice
¾ oz orange juice
¼ oz cinnamon syrup
¼ oz vanilla syrup
¼ oz allspice dram
2 oz Column Still Aged Rum ❹
1 dash Angostura bitters

Garnish: mint sprig, swizzle stick
Method: Line a footed pilsner glass with the orange peel, one end hanging over the rim of the glass. Add the remaining ingredients to a drink mixer tin. Fill with 12 oz crushed ice and 4 to 6 agitator cubes. Flash blend and open pour with gated finish into the glass. Garnish.

I love this one in the fall season. Up front it looks like a summer sipper, but all those spices from the syrups and bitters really give it an autumn vibe. This spec comes from Smuggler's Cove book (page 39), which adapted the Beachbum Berry's best guess of the original from Donn Beach.

Method: Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake. Double strain over a big rock and garnish.

A really lovely jungle bird riff when you need a pick-me-up in the afternoon. A little caffeinated, a little boozy! The coffee-infused Campari is really delightful on its own and absolutely stands out in this spec. First seen from IG subtletiki.

* coffee-infused Campari: add whole beans to Campari in a jar and let sit 12-48 hours depending on how strong you want the infusion. I go all the way. Strain and discard beans; the Campari is still shelf stable.

Power-Up Technique

¾ oz lime juice
¾ oz carrot juice
½ oz simple syrup
2 oz mezcal joven
a few sliced chilis

Garnish: salt rim, lime twist
Method: Prepare the glass by rubbing the rim with lime then dipping it in salt. Combine all remaining ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake. Open pour into the glass and garnish with lime twist.

A lovely margarita riff from @highproofpreacher@threads.net — the carrot works so well bringing both sweetness and an earthy tone to complement the mezcal. I have a balcony-grown chili as a garnish in the photo, but for the drink itself I often prefer for a couple dashes of tabasco or other vinegar hot sauce to add heat.

Tropical Dragon

½ cup dragon fruit chunks
½ oz lime juice
2 oz pineapple juice
¾ oz coconut cream
1½ oz Blended Lightly Aged Rum ❷

Garnish: pineapple frond, orchid

Method: Add the rum and dragon fruit chunks into a shaker and muddle. Add the remaining ingredients, crushed ice, and either blend or shake hard until frost forms on the tin. Open pour and garnish.

I've had this one on my reshake list for a while, so when dragon fruit showed up at my grocery store I picked the nicest looking one and went home with it. To my surprise it was red inside! I've never seen a red one in Europe (plenty in Asia but never here). So, I ditched the plan of using the fruit as my vessel and instead went for a glass. Also to my luck, my white orchid plant is blooming right now which is a nice contrast to the impossibly pink drink. Originally by IG thevibeistropical.

Gin Basil Smash

handful fresh basil
1 oz lemon juice
¾ oz simple syrup
2 oz london dry gin

Garnish: basil sprig
Method: muddle the basil leaves and gin in a shaker. Let sit for two minutes to absorb more color. Add the remaining ingredients with crushed ice, shake, and double strain. Serve up or over a big rock.

This is a go-to on a sunny day, and half the reason I keep two kinds of basil growing on the balcony 🪴 I wanted to use the last of my purple basil before the nights get too cold, and was really pleased with the turnout!

Tiki Negroni by IG thirstywhale_

1 oz banana-infused vermouth
1 oz coconut fat-washed Campari
1 oz Blended Aged Rum ❸
¼ oz tepache de piña
2 drops saline

Garnish: grated nutmeg
Method: combine all prepped ingredients directly in a glass, add crushed ice, swizzle, top with ice, and grate the nutmeg on top.

This one requires a lot of prep but it absolutely slaps! Great work on this one by Justin.

## Prep work

Infuse vermouth with old bananas, and infuse the Campari with warmed coconut oil. Both infusions can be left overnight, but sous vide cuts it down to three hours. Strain each infusion through paper towels or nut bag and store in the fridge. Tepache de piña is also its own project; see the method at the second link.
