Probably not a coincidence that a yellowjacket stung the shit out of me when we were building the wall, maybe 3 meters from this spot.

Eine kleine Wildpflanze, die aus dem Spalt einer Trockenmauer mit langen, schmalen, hellbraun- rötlichen Stängeln herausrankt. Die daran wachsenden Blätter sind klein, leuchtend grün und kleeblattförmig, aber viel runder, die Blüten sind ebenfalls klein und violett rosa mit einer zart- gelben Mitte.

A small wild plant that grows out of the crevice of a dry stone wall with long, narrow, light brown-reddish stems. The leaves growing on it are small, bright green and clover-shaped, but much rounder, the flowers are also small and purplish pink with a pale yellow centre.

Die gleiche Wildblume an der grau-braunen Trockenmauer, aber hier ist die Form der Blüte besser zu sehen. Sie besteht aus 5 Blütenblättern, von denen drei hellviolette am unteren Rand und zwei etwas kräftiger pinkfarbene oberhalb der Mitte (ein bisschen wie zwei Hasenohren) wachsen. Die Mitte selbst besteht aus jeweils zwei nebeneinander liegenden ovalen gelb-weißlichen Erhebungen.

The same wildflower on the grey-brown dry stone wall, but here the shape of the flower is easier to see. It consists of 5 petals, three of which are light purple at the lower edge and two of which are a somewhat stronger pink colour above the centre (a bit like two rabbit ears). The centre itself consists of two oval yellow-white bumps lying next to each other.

A close-up photograph shows a corner where two dry-stone walls meet, revealing the construction details and the natural variations in the stone. The walls are built from thin, irregular pieces of slate or similar layered rock, stacked horizontally without mortar. The stones exhibit a range of colours, including greys, browns, and hints of rust, creating a textured and aged appearance.
At the corner, a large, roughly triangular section of a different type of rock is visible, embedded within the wall. This rock has distinct diagonal striations of dark grey and lighter, almost golden-brown hues. It appears to be a more solid, less layered type of stone compared to the surrounding wall material.
Small patches of greenery, including moss and tiny plants, are growing in the crevices between the stones, particularly near the top and bottom of the frame, indicating the age and weathering of the structure. The ground at the base of the walls is covered with loose stones and sparse vegetation.

Sections of this harbour drive were widened as well for a cycle/ walkway. Can do a full circle by crossing the harbour on a small ferry and riding the trail to the city and back.

A drystone wall encloses a grassy field dotted with molehills. Above and behind it rise grassy and heathery hills. In the wall from the ground to about halfway up the wall is a square opening with a wooden gate blocking it.

Well that was most satisfying. Taking down a drystane wall and then rebuilding it .More fun than it sounds , and i came home with a couple of souvenirs.

A view across pasture fields divided by stone walls, with three large trees and some shrubs in the middle-distance, and more trees beyond. A few cottages can be glimpsed, and the pasture is grazed mainly by sheep, with cattle in one field further away.

Back to London after visiting Scotland, but realizing I haven't kept you fully posted. We found another broch near Dunvegan! They are so cool.

We visited the Dun Beag broch, an iron age roundhouse fort. Imagine having dry stonewall skills so good that your works still persist thousands of years later!

The bottom remains of a dry stonewall roundhouse at the top of a rocky knob of land, with short green grass and mosses and tufts of long brown grass from last year. It probably was originally 50 feet or so tall, but only the bottom 5 to 10 feet remain.
