Defend Rojava! What is the current situation in Rojava and why should we act?

Teach Torthaí, Tuesday, February 3 at 07:00 PM GMT

Bijî Rojava! Next Tuesday, we are hosting a gathering to discuss and build solidarity with the current crisis in Rojava. The revolutionary project in Rojava is currently facing attacks from imperialist forces including the US, EU and Turkey. Kobanê is under seige, and across europe international revolutionaries are rising up and travelling to Kobanê to try and break the siege.

On Tuesday, 3 February at 7 pm, we will host a screening of Óglaigh Rojava, talks and updates from comrades, and a discussion on what we will do next. Everyone is welcome! https://riseup4rojava.org/en

Image: Phillip Allen: low memory (rough edge variation), 2025, oil on board, 60 x 50 cm / 23.6 x 19.7 in | the main area of the painting is covered by a swirling pattern in red, blues, greens, black; there is a suggestion of something like a large ampersand; the ‘frame’ is of what looks like woolly oil paint in purples, pale greeens, yellows, and more • “Kerlin Gallery is pleased to announce Deep Waiting an exhibition of new painting by Phillip Allen. In his latest body of work, Phillip Allen’s fifth solo presentation with the gallery marks a vibrant evolution in the artist’s long-standing exploration of abstraction, materiality and the painted edge. Described by art critic John Yau as “one of the great painters of his generation”, Phillip Allen has refused to settle into any one mode or style, choosing instead to continually push the possibilities of the picture plane resulting in paintings that are sculptural, optical and joyously excessive. Dense accretions of acrylic and oil…”

Image: Tim Morris: Boxcar 8, bronze, unique 12 x 25 x 12cm | photo of a bronze object – a boxcar viewed from the side, only the patterning of the surfaces if very much like you would see with cardboard, where parts of the surface have been torn away to reveal the rilling; the view is from the side; the wheels look almost like biscuits; the background is a photo-studio white with soft shadows • "Solomon Fine Art is delighted to present an exhibition of sculpture by artist Tim Morris. Boxcars is an installation of over 200 unique bronze structures which the artist has been creating since 2020. Conjuring images of transport, trade and travel these Boxcars sit in wait, stationary yet charged with history, intrigue and anticipation. Constructed of discarded corrugated cardboard and cast in bronze, Morris began building boxcars during lock-down. The project, initiated to occupy the artist and to express a sense of ‘waiting’ during that prohibitive time has continued, with some boxcars…”

Hand-embroidered piece adapted from “Tatreez Garden,” by Kawash, with patterns adapted from Tatreez Garden AI system | the pattern is the shape of a rectangle, wider than it is tall, with attached below it a more or less equilateral triangle; there is a theme of leaves, possibly olive leaves, looking as though they may be grown through vertical bars; patterns in red, blue; somewhat carpet-like, somewhat shawl-like • “Historically, ‘the commons’ was used to describe an area of land that was neither public nor private. It described a common resource for anybody to use under certain rules, usually developed by a vested community. ¹ Much of what was the historical commons is private property today, a process which began in the Eighteenth Century with The Enclosure Movement…”
