First pitch of my #Durston x-dome.
As always, feel free to scroll on by, but likes and subs are always appreciated!
The Durston X-Dome 1+ has finally available as from today. As a 1p tent it seems to have ample enough space for one person & a dog.
The poles on the outside makes a lot of sense to me.
As a happy owner of a X-Mid 2P., I'll hang though to see what the X-Dome 2P will look like when it is released.

Day 3 of our Mnweni trip and after our previous long day, we started off at 09:30.
We made a point of visiting the tops of a number of passes, summit caves and taking in the magnificent views. The tops of Fangs & Madonna passes were spectacular. We had a lovely lunch next to a small river in Lesotho.
After lunch the clouds rolled in as we were walking, the wind picked up and then we were pelted with hail. The leader made call that we should make camp. We descended next to stream bed, but the cloud caught us. We pitched the fly of the Durston X-Mid in 2min and then all 4 of us hid inside with our backpacks until the rain passed.
We found a nice spot to camp a bit further down the stream. The 2nd bout of rain came past after we setup and we hung out in one tent eating biscuits and drinking Merlot from Namaqualand.
The type of tent stakes is a very personal choice and depends on the kind of terrain one frequents. I have different tent stakes that I can use with my Durston X-Mid Solid 2P. Not all of them go along all the time.
The long Triwonder stakes are only meant for snow and soft loose sand. I never had to use them yet, although just after Easter I'll be doing a trip that might need them.
I prefer the Y-stakes above the V-stakes as one has to pay less attention how you put them in the soil.
If I know it will be a wind-free place, I'll only take take six stakes. In the Pyrenees, I have found that the short ones work best.
As the chances of wind increases I can add more stakes into my pack up to a max of 16, although I admit, I've never done as yet.
For a trip to the Drakensberg for instance, I might take 8 or 10 which will be a mix of short and long.
A very light and very expensive package came in the mail today! Consider my mood elevated!
I have big plans for this tent!
I am really happy so far with the Durston X1 Mid 2P Solid.
It has ample space for two people with gear inside the inner and under the fly.
It is easy to pitch in the dark 😃.
We had no real wind this time, so that will be tested another time. This also meant that we only needed the 4 corner pegs. I used the the short ones that came with the tent. I did stake out the door zipper a bit for which I used 2 Y-type Sea to Summit pegs.
No condensation and we did not even open the ventilation flaps.
The more I hear about the #Durston X-Mid #backpacking #camping #hiking tents, the more I want one. The only question I have is, should I spring for the larger X-Mid 2?
Half a pound and $60 more buys you a huge amount of space. I've never used a "one person" tent, and prefer to keep my gear inside the tent, not outside.
The only thing that gives me pause about a #trekking pole tent is, what if I want to set up my tent, and then I need my poles?
Durston Kakwa 55 just went up for pre-sale
