I was so excited to come across this paper today. So much fungal diversity from bulk environmental samples remains barely documented—this feels like a big step toward naming, communicating, and understanding it within a Linnaean framework. Curious to see where this goes.

Een moderne techniek biedt hoop: #eDNA, oftewel environmental DNA. In een pilotproject in het stroomgebied van de #Westerwoldsche Aa onderzochten Waardenburg Ecology en Waterschap Hunze en Aa's, met steun van de provincie Groningen, hoe effectief deze methode is voor het monitoren van trekvissen, zoals de #paling (aal) en #rivierprik. Doelstellingen van het onderzoek waren:
Het in beeld brengen van de globale verspreidingspatronen van de aal in het rivierencomplex van de Westerwoldsche Aa.
eDNA-onderzoek om potentiële onbekende paailocaties van rivierprik in beeld te brengen.
Bepalen van de passeerbaarheid van de #aal voor een selectie van gemalen en stuwen in het Westerwoldsche Aa stroomgebied aan de hand van dichtheidsmetingen eDNA.
