is a feat of both science and engineering. It's taken a massive technical capability (deploy a big, fuck-off antenna in orbit), followed by lobbying to allow P band to be used for science, and tons of science research (complicated artefacts from long wavelength and ionosphere, orbital maneuvers to obtain pretty cool imaging modes like tomography, field campaigns to understand what it the hell this thing is measuring, ...), and about 25 years since it was first discussed to get to this. It's hard to get proper visualizations of SAR imagery due to high image dynamics. I have spent quite some time tweaking this one, which represents the parameters of the dual-pol H-alpha decomposition on the new Sentinel-1C sensor! Disclaimer: it's visually compelling, but probably not physically accurate. :)
