I wrote a book.

It is called "For the hypothetical aliens" and it is about our place in the universe, how we relate to nature, and what that means for us, individually.

It takes a stance somewhat centred on the dissonance between a SciFi way of looking at things vs. "realism".

It's about 40 pages of actual poetry plus the contents page, acknowledgements etc and (warning) it does contain one five page poem purporting to be about a mathematical equation...

The usual price is £5 but I am discounting them to £4 at the moment. Shipping in the UK is £1.80.

If you live elsewhere in the world we'll have to strategize because there have been problems sending pamphlets/magazines from the UK since Brexit 😢.

If you want to order one, or invite me to read from it at your poetry evening, please PM me.

About the author	53Cover of a poetry pamphlet, the title is "For the hypothetical aliens". It is orange and worn, like an old document folder, and it has some sort of security stamp declaring the contents top have been reclassified "Non sensitive"View of the whole, opened cover of a poetry pamphlet called "For the hypothetical aliens" and with a logo proclaiming it is from "Literal Fraud Press". It carries the image of fake wear and tear, with particularly deep scratches on the back...An inside page from a poetry pamphlet showing the start of a poem:

_The universe speaks to you_

I - Water...

...flows,
but has no thought of flowing. Every droplet
of rain free
to follow its weird
find its level
bead the underside
of a leaf, the whole
nonetheless
adding up to moorland brook, burbling
here and now and in a single direction. Far downstream,
current toys with grit
does not imagine things better
if this pebble were elsewhere
but nags at it
wobbles it
urges it to move
and a mere
thousand years later
a mighty estuary deltas
one side of the continent. The stream meanwhile
is cutting a new channel
through the limestone ridge.

Each molecule is part of something larger
and doesn't know
or things it knows do not make sense. Water's
unfeeling mechanism
floods a city or builds an ecosystem
and even if the outcome of civilisation
is nothing humans comprehend
it will be that rich.

A good news story to lighten the mood, eh. Well done these folks attempting to rescue a great white that had got beached. Nice to see humanity extended even to a creature that gets a bad rep

Haven’t been very active lately. I had an #operation two days ago and was told to take it easy for a while. No lifting, no bending, no stretching, …
Nothing too alarming, I hope, except that every invasive procedure is a concern. They did this with a general #anaesthetic as a day procedure!
Before my operation, I was extremely busy in the garden getting things ready for afterwards.
Photograph is of our Wisteria by the garage, climbing across its custom built frame and into the Prunus serrulata (Japanese flowering cherry) behind.

Hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus amphibius) can be cute & dangerous. They're responsible for an estimated 500 human deaths annually in Africa, making them the deadliest large land mammal on the continent-more dangerous than lions, leopards, elephants or crocodiles. #ecology #photo #nature #wildlife #biology #animals

Blessed Beltane. May we rise up like a Phoenix from the ashes.

Don't forget to leave a comment opposing the proposed change to the Endangered Species Act, which will change the definition of "harm" to no longer include habitat destruction. Protection of critical habitat is one of the best ways to protect a species, as without a place to live the species will indeed go extinct.

Please add a public comment to this today! We have until May 19th, and it only takes about five minutes of your time: federalregister.gov/documents/

If you need help writing a comment, here is a how-to outline: imginn.com/p/DJA7OOmMP8e/

A white and brown australian shepherd dog leaps up behind it, but perspective makes it look like she is leaping up from the flames.
