A human in the center of a manila bookmark is covered from head to toe in red purple dark lines, in clusters often of 4 to 5 lines. They represent itching and scratching and cover the entire body some in long scratches and itches which go the length of a chin or from a hip down to almost the knee and some in short little bursts. They curve around body shapes, so even though there is nothing underneath them, the way they wrap around things imply the anatomical structures underneath. Some people say these lines evoke muscle diagrams, despite the fact they zig and zag around the body in ways which are not muscular. The hands are dramatically stylized, fingers splayed and holding tension, as if about the begin scratching again.

Diagnosis: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

After self-diagnosing, I got an official diagnosis. The victory of the official diagnosis was upstaged by the foot trauma two days previously, which I now know is a broken bone. However, at lest it’s in the same limb as all my other orthopedic trauma and severe arthritis. That’s really my saving grace right now — it’s a familiar injury. Adding another new mystery set of symptoms would be less welcome than rehatching an old burden.

Anyway, back to the art. I love some of the light interactive properties here that are hard to capture in a scan so:

Reflective properties close up, gold paint in the eyes, green metallic reflection for the dark around and in the eyes. The shimmer (ultra fine glittering particles) in the green ink are vibrant blue, and in the blue zebra stripes are color shifting, right now a rose.

Within the zebra's white spaces are green ink with blue sparkles, representing points of injury or trauma which have healed 'imperfectly' or had lasting trauma due to the connective tissue disorder -- the left (mirrored) leg, right inner knee, inner thighs and outer hips, some on the hands/fingers, and a splotch on the chest. Fuck any doctor that charges almost a thousand dollars for an hour and a half (and one portal message) of their time, ESPECIALLY when that doctor deals with a rare disability that isn't all that rare.

Newsflash assholes: almost no one, percentage-wise, can afford that.

Yeaaa nope.

Love when people try to guess why we use mobility aids. It’s a fun little game where we get to either explain the sotuation and have them criticize us or we don’t explain and they criticize us anyways.

Luckily, Luna didn’t have to go through that. A sinple “no” with no other explanation went a long way for her.

The startegy here is to just answer as vaguely as possible and stare at them. Just stare. Stare like you’re waiting for the next guess, or like you’re waiting for them to follow up. It works like a charm.

How do you know if you've popped a rib "out of socket"?

I sneezed this morning and thought I pulled a muscle, but the pain is intense and hasn't let up all day. I started to wonder if it was something more when I sneezed again this evening, and there was a very clear popping sensation accompanied by even more intense pain. It's right around the area where my rib would meet the cartilage next to my sternum.

I've been unable to cough effectively all day long. Every cough, even a mild one, is super painful. Meanwhile, I feel like I'm suffocating or drowning because I can't clear my airway effectively.

If it is a dislocated rib, what do I do? How do I fix it or at least get the pain to ease up? How do I stop this from happening again?

I had a seizure on Saturday morning.

I've never had one before. My mom said I had one when I was little and got really mad. Who knows.

The best part about this was that I was on the toilet. Fell over and laid on the floor for about two hours. It took me a very long time to regain full consciousness.

I could have cracked my head open. I could be dead right now.
