I've removed image transform from my 11ty site, I was concerned about build time and resource usage once I start to bring legacy content across, replcing it with a webp conversion action in automator on my images folder. Pagination is the final item left on my initial todo list, but is trickier than it should be due to the dynamic filtration in my templates. #notes #indieweb #eleventy #changelog

Removing Image Transform - l.prry.uk/notes/2025-12-17-not

No one is immune from change. One of my major clients is restructuring and won't be requiring my services so I'm on the hunt for work.

About me: I'm a freelancing web designer/developer with experience in #wordpress (incl. #Elementor), #Shopify and #Eleventy. I very much enjoy working with #HTML and #CSS, and designing in #Figma.

I'm based in Australia working with clients worldwide, looking for individual projects or ongoing agency contract work. Happy to share portfolio examples if you're interested.

Fresh from my shock at finding Starbucks open for my 6am train came my shock at buying my first ever +£7 coffee. Finishing off last nights work getting image transforms and feeds working together in the first 15 minutes of my journey did soften the blow.

I've made good progress on my 11ty site this weekend with new topic archives collating content types for each topic, and linking through from content meta sections, with a topics index page. I'm struggling to paginate archive pages though due to the dynamic content filtering inside my templates.

I think it is took me about 6 tries over a couple of years, plus about 10 dead ends with Google Gemini in this latest round, but I think I finally got #eleventy nested pagination (where pagination is used to generate a page for each tag and each of those tags can have multiple pages of corresponding posts) to work.

Last Wednesday, my fellow XPUB1 classmates and me wrapped up the trimester with a collective folding, binding, and paginating party to make A_Mazing Machine[s]: Wordscapes to Liberate Language, the printed publication of our Special Issue 28!

My first few months at @xpub have been incredible. I am so proud of my classmates, the work we did together, and what we learned. I am also very grateful to our tutors, who have been super kind and inspiring!

All information, plus a PDF of the printed version, made with WeasyPrint is available on this Eleventy website we created to share all the things that we explored. It mirrors our incredible, legendary wiki. It was very interesting and insightful, so I published my notes about Using MediaWiki as a CMS for Eleventy.

Added a little snow to my site to cool down the servers.

You can too by checking this guide. I’m using the snow-fall component from @zachleat on my #Eleventy site.

I managed to port my webmention display script over from bear pretty quickly last night. I might try to expand it to also pull in from legacy urls.

My main priority is to sort out a custom feed template so that echofeed can echo content in an intelligent way.

I also need to explore Git CMS options, check webmention send, and build pagination into templates ready for the content expanding.

My website is almost ported to #11ty , but there's one issue left that I can't resolve:

EDIT: I opened a GitHub discussion:
github.com/11ty/eleventy/discu
ENDEDIT

In #zola , I have a shortcode for embedding mastodon feed of specified account. I figured I'd use liquid's {% render %} for it in 11ty instead of a shortcode, as it supports arguments and is basically what #zola shortcode is.

Inside a zola shortcode, you can acces a variable called "nth", which will increment if you use the same shortcode multiple times on one page. It's value will be "1" in the first shortcode, "2" in the second and so on.

The library for embedding mastodon post requires a container with an id. Using this variable, I can just use

<div id="masto-feed-{{ nth }}"></div>

and I have every feed have it's own unique id.

How do I do that in 11ty? I don't necessarily need this numbering, although I imagine it being useful for other things as well. I just need every shortcode on one page to have it's own unique id. I have a feeling that it's probably something simple I missed in the documentation, but I haven't been able to find a solution anyway.

Tried to find comprehensive API documentation for #Eleventy.

I want answers to questions like “in the `compile` method of a custom template extension processor, what properties and methods does `this` have?”

Such documentation does not appear to exist.

This right here is part of why I have such a dim view of dynamic typing. In languages like Rust, I wouldn't be in this predicament because the compiler would've *forced* the #11ty devs to comprehensively answer the aforementioned question.

So I have my site running on 11ty now. I still have a lot of work to do on content ingestion into feeds - I'll probably end up writing a feed template. I need to fix the conflict between my rss and image-transform plugin setup, and to finish various general template improvements.

Todd and Bruce said the “documentation” button on the #Eleventy website should be bigger.

I don't know who Todd and Bruce are, but they were right.

My 11ty build is almost complete. The final barrier to launch is fixing the rss plugin, which strangely stopped producing feeds while building the site.

I built a tiny RSS generator for my Advent of Code solutions : Juha-Matti Santala

"This week, I started solving Advent of Code problems and this time I’m publishing my explanations as part of my Digital Garden and that doesn’t support separated RSS feeds for a subset of notes.

Two IndieWeb principles that I love are Make what you need and Use what you make. In that spirit, I built a tiny tool today afterwork to enable people to follow my Advent of Code explanations via RSS."

It has been a bit of a trawl, but with some trial and error and some css help from @artlung I have my 11ty test pretty much ready to move onto its actual domain at test-lprry.statichost.eu

I need to wrap my head around 11ty incremental builds, and file pass throughs which I've found problematic, but hopefully I now have everything running as it should be.

I still need to install microformats, and also webmention display - which I'll do after pushing live.

Eleventy looks minimal at first, but it quietly does a huge amount of work to deliver clean, modern static sites.
I think it's still going to matter in 2026 — and that's why Quesby builds on it.

My images are applying the width dimension from css and the fixed height image attribute implanted by the image plugin... creating this stretched appearance...
