Der Support für Windows 10 endet am 14. Oktober 2025. Damit werden zahlreiche Windows-Geräte mit der Zeit praktisch unbrauchbar. Wer Windows weiter nutzen möchte, muss sich ein neues Gerät anschaffen. Das ist kostspielig und schadet der Umwelt. Die Produktion neuer Geräte erfordert oftmals knappe Ressourcen, die unter menschenunwürdigen Bedingungen abgebaut werden und hinterlässt CO₂ Emissionen, die wir uns für die Einhaltung des 1,5°C-Grad-Zieles nicht mehr leisten können.

Before switching to Linux for good, I made some backups. I saved my private and research files on an external hard disk. I also stored a backup of my research files on my employer's server.
Are there any other steps I should consider?

macOS 26 Tahoe will be the last version of macOS for Intel powered Apple Macintosh computers.
Intel Macs make fabulous Linux machines! If you have an Intel Mac, there's options. All is not lost.
Between the excellent build quality and the fantastic displays I'd even suggest that Macs are a superior, non-obvious choice for picking up a used machine for experimenting with Linux. I've used Minis for Linux containerization nodes in the home lab in the past as well.
Be careful though, make sure the hardware spec matches the price. Lots of uninformed (delusional?) Mac zealots out there think their 5-10 year old Mac is worth way more than the hardware spec would imply. Paying a 5-10% premium for the better build quality on an iMac or lappie in the used market is worth it in my opinion. For the Mini, not so much.

#KaOS Linux running in #QEMU in fullscreen mode on my laptop, part of my research for a suitable linux demo live image.
To achieve this, start in normal mode, then select view->fullscreen in the qemu window, then set the monitor resolution in the guest system to the same size as your screen.
KaOS people will see that I changed the configuration a bit, but I really like it anyways. It comes with LibreOffice as well as Calligra office, and being arch/arcos based it is of course up to date and easily maintainable. I didn't try the installer, but it's calmares, which is usually working just fine.
One issue with all the live images I tried so far is that they do not come with danish locale, making them unsuitable for a linux demo for danes. So I might end up creating my own version of #ArcoLinux Plasma Pro, while it is still possible. That will also allow me to make a more non-geek friendly application selection.
