Weirdest question we came up with at #39c3:
If #Chemotherapy quite frequently changes hair color, is this an indicator that hair color is in part defined by an #epigenetic mechanism? Will there be pills to change hair color in the future? I’ll need to ask one of the friends who have students explore strange stuff about this…

This global profiling of lysine-malonylated #proteins in #rice leaf sheaths, and the changes in these proteins under biotic stresses, reveals #epigenetic mechanisms for developing #crops with broad-spectrum stress #resistance.

Proposed mechanism by which lysine malonylation enhances rice resistance to herbivores/viruses via metabolic/chromatin modulation, with the histone deacetylase OsHDA711 as a negative regulator. Additional panels illustrate data and morphological results supporting these findings.

What do trees remember?

“For trees, memory is not a metaphor but a biological reality, written into their cells.

One remarkable form this takes is memory: the ability of a tree to record its life experiences and allow them to shape its future, without changing its DNA.

Membra (Understanding Memory of Treescapes for Better Resilience & Adaptation) studies a number of ecologically vital & culturally significant .”

Epigenetic regulators like EZH2 are mutated in #Bcell #lymphoma, but what is their effect? This study reveals a role for mutant EZH2 in lymphomagenesis, using a new method for measuring #epigenetic heterogeneity & intra- #chromatin connectivity in #cancer @PLOSBiology plos.io/4mZcS8n

EZH2-mutants exhibit two distinct epigenetic populations. Top: Joint UMAP of OCI-Ly7 WT cells and the isogenic EZH2 Y646N cells (Left) or dMUT cells (Right). Colors indicate the sample index. Bottom: Only mutant-EZH2 cells are plotted, to highlight the subpopulation of mutant cells that cluster with WT cells, referred to as ‘WT-like’. The subpopulation of cells that cluster separately from WT is referred to as EZH2 Y646N ‘extreme’ or dMUT ‘extreme’, respectively.
