I've got to say, Boardsource.xyz has done right by me.

I have my beloved lily58 back up and running thanks to a replacement pcb/micro-controller. Many thanks to all who gave me troubleshooting pointers. I think it was a defective micro-controller all along.

My digits are confused but happy to be back to column staggered!

All I have is this tiny bedside table that already has a monitor on it, and mice are hard to use on the bed. Sooo, I switched to a @ploopy@mastodon.social Adept #trackball and a FalbaTech Atreus62 FT (Colemak-DHm layout) keyboard.

A tiny bedside table holding a monitor, a colorful 3d printed trackball, and a CNCed bamboo keyboard. It looks like a really tight fit, everything is really crammed on there. A normal mouse or keyboard, let alone both, would clearly not work in this space.

Well, now that my lily58 ergo mech board is down I'm falling back to my spare. It's an Epomaker TH 66 and its fine for a standard board.

I got to say though going from column staggered back to row staggered is not a happy place for me.

I'm crushed. The left half of my lily58 ergo mech keyboard started flaking out yesterday. Once plugged in it types 5tgb and then those keys go dead. I'm thinking a short.

It's a boardsource.xyz buy, not quite a year old. I'm going to reach out but any troubleshooting would be appreciated.

i'm learning to use qmk home row mods and holy shit it's soooo comfortable. except for the minor issue of locking my PC all the time because apparently i "roll" the A+L combination in words like "actually"

I’m really happy with my new notebook.
It is nearly 1kg lighter than my previous one which makes great to carry with me.
This makes it easier to bring my #ZSA Voyager with me.
The internal keyboard of the new notebook is a little bit recessed into the body, so unlike with the previous notebook I don’t have to disable it while using the Voyager on top of it.

This week I got the little angled USB-C cable to connect to the notebook and in a few days a curled cable should arrive which improves this setup even further.

Carrying case in a very muted light lavender fabric with white trim. Embroidered in the same lavender color: "I'D RATHER KISS A WOOKIEE!"A hand lifts a corner of the case, revealing a grey-ish pattern inside fabric and a few keys of a small keyboard also held in white and lavender. The case fully opened, showing off the additional cable compartment and straps holding down the 18-key keyboard.

  • i have no idea where to put backspace and enter. they're both useful enough to not want on a layer but not useful enough to get one of my very limited thumb keys. and there's no room on the alphas. i could do mod tap i suppose
  • i don't know how to do numbers. i wanna do a numpad style layout but that would need a thumb key for zero, but that would need a free thumb key, but that would mean i would need to have it on either my nav layer or my symbol layer. which isn't ideal because i want those for y'know, nav and symbols. maybe a layer toggle is better here, for a sort of "equation mode". side note: i think that's the first time i've typed a Q

corne keyboard layout first impressions:

  • my hands rest much more comfortably on the center thumb keys than the default inner ones so i remapped it
  • trying to avoid using the outer (further under the hand) thumb keys because that's where i've had pain before. but it's so tempting because it's so useful
  • i have tiny, weak pinkies so i'm not using the sixth (outer) column
  • coming up with good key mappings is a fuck
  • i don't touch type so a lot of keys feel like they're very weird positions to me:
    • i keep reaching way too far for B
    • i strongly expect C to be under the index finger, whereas other keys were an easier adjustment
    • M and N are very confusing
    • basically all my problems are with the index fingers
    • it really fucks with me that the index finger gets two columns unlike every other finger. feels like i'm fucking up by using the wrong finger but no

Wow, I can't believe how silent these choc Ambients are... I got a mix of Nocturnals and Twilights (from Keeb Supply, an EU shop) and swapped them out (from Pro Reds) on my ZSA Voyager split keyboard.

Not only are they almost completely silent, they're also very comfy to type on, as they're padded a bit (to make them silent), so even pressing the key all the way down has a bit of dampening, which is great.

I started in the ergo world by putting a post-it near the keyboard, so when I looked down I got reminded to move and blink several times. Then I discovered a whole world: split mechanical keyboards, switches, chairs... I discovered the fast typing races, so I started to practice until becoming great at it, and now my eyes are dry because I no longer see the keyboard when typing.
This is obviously a , I suck at fast typing.

One the most popular pages on my blog is about the keyboard layout I made for the #Corne #ErgoMechKeyboard

This month, there was a release of the open source keyboard design which uses the #RP2040 controller built into the PCB, allowing room for 4 more optional optional keys or rotary encoders.

I would use one for a volume knob and one for a scroll wheel!

Soon I'll have a link to #ZMK firmware for this.
