@axoaxonic

Holly,

A friend just linked me to the "Essential3" Ulixacaltamide study. You had mentioned the earlier phases in Nov 2023. I did the "qualification" test online and they said I fit. But when I go to the appointment page to setup an intake call, it says "No times available in February" and won't let me advance to March. Or provide any other contact route.

Searching the web for the Praxis company, it is all about other test failures and the stock price tanking from $20 to $1.

Despite study setback, a biotech plans to push tremor drug into late-stage testing

The trial found the drug was no better than a placebo at improving patients’ condition, as measured by a scorecard used to evaluate the severity of their tremors as well as how they perform daily activities like speaking, writing and standing. However, Praxis said its drug showed small, but statistically significant improvements over placebo on three other scorecards that served as secondary goals of the study.

Do I even want to be part of this? And maybe get a placebo while wasting lots of time with their representatives? If they will even bother coming out to my very rural location... When their results depend on silly questions about self perception, that disagree with each other?

Holly,

Meditating on your reply about "different words", I connected some previously unlinked awarenesses. I'm not aware of "resting tremor". My hands shake only when they require precise control - which may mean movement or stability. I guess that's "intention tremor". But while resting, and clearing my mind of planning intention, I can feel my entire body subtly pulsating at the rate of my hand tremor - but not perceptibly moving. Maybe a background level of brain spiking? When I intend an action, I lose that body awareness, and the pulsation all seems to move into the trembling hand and arm while the rest of me floats in unrelated space.

My hand tremor looks to be typical, just under 6 Hz. I did a multi year test of various CoQ10 supplements in ridiculously huge doses, and then big scoops of "Tremor Miracle" which added vitamins and other stuff. (Looks like they've changed it a lot since then.) I'd put the little iPhone with the TREMOR12 app between my palm and the big glass of liquid, and move the results to Jupyter Notebooks. Looked like the image here, you can see each sip. But no improvement over years of trying.

Maybe unrelated, but I've always consciously seen the pulsation of AC electric lights (and old CRT screens). Over 50 years ago I began converting my home and work lighting to DC. Now I'm lucky to live off-grid, where all my lighting runs directly from the batteries. Without that blessed peacefulness, I doubt I'd be able to feel the subtle background pulsation of my body.

(More thoughts being processed...)

Introduction post:
I'm an amateur artist who works with lasers because lasers don't care if your hands shake

I'm a little neurospicey (late diagnosed ADHD) so this might be a bit scattered.

Final peculiarities: I've got an evil eye from a violent cataract back in '88 (who needs depth perception?), a big ol' chest scar (heart/aorta repair), and a deep voice in case you need something to sound ominous!

Lol @ this study finding that social anxiety and #essentialTremor are correlated, but we don't know which way the causality flows, and then they formulate the hypothesis that it could be social anxiety causing tremor.

I feel like a bit of empathy and imagination should make it obvious that it's difficult to be fully socially confident if you constantly _appear_ to be a nervous wreck. People treat you accordingly. I have like 500 stories if any researchers are interested

Some #essentialTremor news: a pretty serious study by serious people shows a 3x risk of developing dementia compared to the general population.

My (uneducated) take is that this applies more to people who develop it in old age - there's clearly a degenerative process happening if you go from not having it to having it. For people like me who had it all their life with little change it's maybe less clear.

"Overall, we identified four main categories of dysregulation that numerous processes fall into: (1) axonal guidance, (2) microtubule motor activity, (3) ER-Golgi transport, and (4) calcium
signaling/synaptic transmission.
...
It is increasingly likely that multiple dysregulated processes play a role in the etiology of ET, further supporting the hypothesis that ET is a family of related diseases rather than a single entity"

...

"Electron microscopy studies have shown that axonal swellings in ET patients contain an excess of disorganized neurofillaments and organelles (mitochondria and [endoplasmic reticulum]) which accumulate as a result of damaged axonal transport. Trafficking along the axon requires stable microtubule dynamics via dynein-dynactic (retrograde) and kinesin (anterograde) activity"
