I’m helping organise a charity art auction for the local high school, and we keep getting “do you know that’s the same night as the medieval festival?” and we keep having to explain that thanks to venue availability and school calendar, it’s the only night we can do.
I can’t tell if people think we shouldn’t put an event at the same time as the big, popular annual festival out of politeness, or because they think no one will come to ours, but it’s stressing me out big time.
I just have to hope it’s the same small-town thing as when we started running a basketball skills clinic in winter, and had people telling us the football and netball clubs wouldn’t like it, and Lo and behold, instead we got a heap of kids who did neither football and netball and now had a sport they could do.
(The difference being, we made sure to put it on a different night to the other sports, not directly compete.)
The audience for the medieval festival can’t have a massive overlap with the audience for an art auction, surely?
