Peaceful counter protest against the planned far right march in #Exeter #Devon on Saturday the 17th of January organised by #StandUpToRacismExeter. This is opposing a rally by far right agitator, UKIP member and general thug Nick Tenconi

A poster saying "March and rally again. Unite against the far right.

Far right "patriots" are once again bringing hare, fear and division to our city. In November they let off flares in the High Street and shouted abuse at passers by. Join Exeter is for Everyone in our peaceful protest with our march and rally for hope and unity.

Saturday 17th January, meet 12 noon Bedford Square on the High Street"

Ben's Farm Shop in #Exeter (AKA Riverford, but the #highstreet shop rather than the delivery or farming sides) are looking for someone to take it on as something that might appeal more to fast-food can't-cook students (150k of them) than their locally-grown, organic produce, but still avoiding agribusiness ultraprocessed industrial food. They're holding-onto it and all fittings for a while. bensfarmshop.co.uk/

From the river, Exeter, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Exeter

#Exeter #England #photography #historicalPhotos #photochrom

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026967

This image portrays a picturesque riverside scene, likely from late 19th or early 20th century England. The focal point is the gentle bend of a river with calm waters reflecting its surroundings. On one side of the riverbank stands a wooden gate leading to what appears to be an open field or garden, which suggests it could be a private property entrance.

In the background, there's a mix of industrial structures and historical buildings under construction along with completed constructions, including chimneys indicating factories or mills and classical architecture such as church spires. The town is nestled on gently sloping terrain that rises to meet higher ground in the distance where more structures are visible but less detailed due to atmospheric perspective.

The color palette seems muted yet vivid enough to suggest a historical photograph print from the era indicated, which would be consistent with photochrom prints known for their colorful and somewhat exaggerated appearance. The sky is not prominently featured but appears clear, contributing to the overall calmness of the scene. This image encapsulates an era where urbanization was occurring alongside nature in Exeter, England.

Exbridge, Exeter, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Exeter

#Exbridge #Exeter #England #Bellwells #Britain #photography #historicalPhotos #photochrom

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026967

This image depicts a picturesque riverside scene, likely from around 1890 to 1900 based on the style and coloration of the photograph. The river is calm with clear reflections visible in its surface, suggesting stillness or a gentle flow. On one side of the riverbank sits an old stone bridge spanning across it, connecting two areas that have buildings indicative of early industrial era architecture.

On the riverside, various figures are present: some standing near the water's edge and others seated on what appears to be a grassy embankment or path alongside the river. These individuals seem to engage in casual activities such as conversation or perhaps enjoying the view. The attire suggests that this may have been taken during cooler weather.

The surrounding buildings include residential houses, possibly with some commercial uses indicated by signage like "Bellwells" and other text partially visible on structures. A mixture of brick and stone construction is observed across these edifices, reflecting typical building materials for the time period in Exeter, England.

In summary, this photograph captures a tranquil riverside setting from an earlier era, showcasing human activity within an urban landscape that includes architecture indicative of industrial development during late 19th-century Britain.

Countess Weir, Exeter, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Exeter

#CountessWeir #Exeter #England #European #photography #historicalPhotos #photochrom

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026967

The image depicts a serene rural landscape with several thatched-roof cottages nestled among lush greenery. The buildings have a quaint, rustic appearance, indicative of traditional European architecture possibly from the late 19th to early 20th century. In the foreground, calm waters reflect the structures and trees above, suggesting it is either dawn or dusk due to the soft lighting. Trees with full foliage dominate the scene on both sides of the waterway. The overall color palette includes muted greens, browns, and a hazy yellow sky hinting at early morning light. This image appears vintage, potentially from an old postcard collection, capturing a peaceful countryside setting in Exeter, England during that era.

High Street, Exeter, England between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of the British Isles England Exeter

#Exeter #England #photography #historicalPhotos #photochrom

loc.gov/pictures/item/20026967

The image captures a lively urban scene from an era, depicting rows of historic buildings with intricate architectural details. The streets are bustling with people engaged in various activities such as walking and conversing on the sidewalks or sitting outside establishments like cafes or storefronts which display goods for sale. Street lamps line both sides of the street, adding to the vintage ambiance.

The colors appear slightly faded but retain a warm tone indicative of older photographs printed using techniques common during that period. The sky above is clear with soft hues suggesting either early morning or late afternoon light. Notable features include shop signs and awnings in different styles, as well as the presence of horse-drawn carriages which provide context for the transportation methods available at the time.

The overall atmosphere conveys a sense of community life during that historical period within Exeter's commercial district. The absence of modern elements like cars or contemporary signage helps preserve an authentic glimpse into urban existence from approximately 1890 to 1900 in England, showcasing both daily activities and architectural styles prevalent at the time.

The image is credited with a reference number "65e47b1d5890ae069f6831e7" which likely corresponds to its source or cataloging system used by the owner of this historical photograph.

For the second December in a row, a Yellow-browed Warbler turned up within a mile of my house. A Firecrest was a nice bonus too!

This one was zipping about by a public path mostly in Willow.

She has purple hair, smoky eye makeup and a T-shirt saying Eat Plants and Practice Witchcraft. In front of her are two wine glasses the size of fishbowls. In our defense they were only half full, the case for the prosection is that we had several.
