I saw toot the other day about how the #NYPD spent literal millions of taxpayer dollars chasing down the unrepentant miscreants who have committed the heinous misdeed of eluding collective hundreds of thousands of dollars of #PublicTransit #fares.
Now I'm no #Economy guru or anything, but I had a thought or three just now about this.
Let's simplify the numbers and say it was just one million dollars spent chasing down one hundred thousand dollars' worth of fare-eluders.
Rather than spend all that taxpayer money spending dectuple the amount lost to still not get the fares paid, what if instead the NYPD simply paid the public transit company double the amount of the missing fares?
In so doing, the public transit service is made whole, and there is an 80% savings to the public cost of "dealing with" fare eluders.
And no one gets the everloving crap beaten out of them by actors of the State.
