EPA: what's the point of keeping us in the dark on furloughs???

I get a lot of the shit that the agency has been doing, whether I agree with it or not. There's always been an ulterior motive, but it isn't sneaky. But what is the point of not giving ANY info on how long carryover funding will last? I know some groups in some regions and HQ have received furlough notices today, but why won't they just tell us like past shutdowns?! Like what political points are being gained by keeping us in the dark? Especially when other agencies are being fairly open about it?

How to handle a "Mad King" at work

This GS-14 has been going off the rails, on any task. It is to the point that teammates are crying, afraid, stressed. Several people have quit on them. Many of the staff are veterans, used to a "harsh" environment and are very dedicated, even amidst the government drama. This has been occurring since they got promoted to the position, last year. In 30yrs, have never seen this level of toxicity. They are not to the supervisor to the team, which agrees with the above. I'm not sure what can be done, at this stage. Should the members file a complaint? Perhaps that's the responsibility of the supervisor. As a Senior "mentor" to these employees, I don't want their careers tarnished.Any advice would be appreciated.

Let’s show them who we really are

For us that are furloughed, get out into your community and volunteer your time, if you’re able to. Let your community know your story and that you’re just looking to help during the furlough. Even if small, it could impact the public’s perception of us in that we are just people, and not what the media and/or politicians portray us to be. Ensure whatever you do is in alignment with your org’s ethics policies. A few examples that I’ve done is volunteer at my kids’ schools, and I’ve reached out to my neighbors, especially the elderly, to help with anything that they may need.

USAA Shutdown Assistance Loan: What I learned from calling USAA.

Today I applied for the Shutdown Relief Loan through USAA. I called them and asked some questions. It's entirely possible others may have more information and that this information I received is incomplete or incorrect. If so, please let me know and I'll update accordingly. Q: Is this a recurring payment every two weeks until funding is restored? A: No. USAA has only authorized this loan in the amount of one pay check. Q: What if this shutdown goes through the next pay period? A: USAA is actively monitoring the situation. If it extends to another pay period, USAA may update the loan terms. Q: If that's the case, will I be required to apply for another loan? A: That's unknown at this time. Q: It says the loan is due to be paid back within 60 days of receipt of the loan but on your website it says two payments, the first within 60 days of funding and the second 30 days after that. Which is it? A: The first payment is due within 60 days of the receipt of the loan. Q: The current administration is threatening to not pay furloughed employees backpay. If that is somehow the case, what happens to the loan? A: USAA is currently monitoring the situation and may elect to change repayment terms. I'm reading this as, you still own the money back (obviously) but USAA may extend the term. Q: How long is the loan offer good for? A: Two weeks. Personally, I am waiting to see if we will get a partial pay check this week. If not, I may elect to accept the loan. If we do get paid, I'll wait until the next pay period.

I can't believe Americans are putting up with losing services and flight delays because the government can't get it together.

4 million people are set to lose healthcare coverage and the deficit is only growing. Flights are being delayed and cancelled because they can't agree on a budget. That's their most important job, it's not like they're passing any laws, they are just yelling at each other and trying to get prime time spots on the. It's pathetic. Imagine having a coworker that was constantly late on deadlines to the point where the country is losing $15 billion per week. It's gross incompetence.

Help-don’t know what to tell my apartment. Can’t pay rent.

Any advice on communications to my property manager about being unable to pay rent. I can’t get myself to spend the last dollars I have without knowing when I will get my next paycheck.
