Has completed first repeat of Mammen tablet weaving pattern. The grey is popping just like I hoped, though a the black border is blending in except until really bright light.
I've been doing lazy patterns for a while, just plain stripes and similar like on the ace pride one I shared the other day. Getting back into this kind of pattern is definitely a brain-and-finger challenge, but no major errors so far!
Feeling a bit restless, I decided to do some sewing. I had a 50 cm piece of this dotted Kaffe Fassett fabric and when I checked my solid color stash (still a work in progress!), I found that I had a nicely matching color in almost the same size.
About an hour later, I now have a 3 meter long string with 12 flags ready to be used whenever I feel festive!

Knitters! I am reaching the cuff of my toe up socks. I plan to do 1x1 ribbing for the cuff section. These socks are going to go much further up my leg than my usual socks. I’m going for something stretchy that will look good.

I've finished the "yoke" - sleeve sts are on hold, the v neck is done, now on to knitting on the round. It's also time for the next color switch.
The math has worked out quite nicely, I'm very pleased. And the fit looks good as well. I think I'll add a tiny bit of waist shaping and then flare out for the hips. The initial plan had been to work straight down, but it's going to be rather long so I want a bit of fit.
I'm thinking of this for my next weaving pattern. It's a very old pattern, reconstructed from a woven band found excavating a 10thC site in Mammen, Denmark.
I've get a very dark purple -- too dark for the ace band I just finished -- that i think would make the grey really pop.

Finally finished my ace pride band. Total is about an inch wide and 10 feet long.
Had planned to do trans flag next but can't afford more string right now, so need to go back to the drawing board, see what I can do with what I have on hand.

My kid received a cyanotype fabric kit and we've had fun making prints together. I made this in January using leaves and seed heads from a papalo plant. I love the texture and sense of depth created by the negative print.

Looking for a bday present for my MiL who loves #Knitting
She goes to a weekly knitting group & carries her gear in a plastic bag. I'd like to get her a bag with lots of pockets to keep organized.
She carries:
- circular needles (the kind that are attached to each other)
-crochet hook
- ball(s) of yarn
- the knitting pattern/pencil
- her current project, usually ranging in size from a baby blanket to a large adult sweater

Barbados blackbelly sheep have straight wiry hair on them. Some have horns. They were bred for warmer, caribbean climates (Barbados). The ones I've seen have black and brown fleeces and bodies. IDK about white fleeces.
They look a LOT like goats.
They don't have much fleece on them, and are considered a "meat sheep", but some shepherds are working on breeding them for more than that. I haven't spun their fleece yet.
Side by side comparison of Upland cotton (industrial variety grown in Georgia, left) and Florida native cotton (right). I’d read that FL native cotton has a shorter staple length than industrial cottons but the staple length between these two is actually similar. It’s Pima (Egyptian) cotton that has a much longer staple length, but it isn’t grown in GA. The most noticeable difference to me is that Upland cotton is a brighter white while FL native is cream color. #spinning #FiberArts
Tunis sheep can have a rusty red tinge to their fleece, especially as lambs. The red tinge extends to their ears. The tinge of red strands of fleece that barely show up when actually spun.
Their wool is next to skin soft and spongey. Felts well. IDK if they're actually native to Tunisia or not.
Merino sheep usually have horns. Small tan curled horns. They suffer from wool blindness due to the way they've been bred over the years. They have lots of wrinkles on their skin, which leads to them looking like they have rolls of fiber.
They can be tricky to shear because no farmer/shearer wants their sheep to get cut by the shears. You have to gently pull the skin to get a smooth surface to shear off the wool.
Merino wool is getting longer though, due to breeding.
