For a custom infrared remote control, I thought I was going to have to cut a window of IR-transmissive acrylic, such as Plexiglass 3143, but I just learned that PLA is IR transmissive. I may be able to print the entire enclosure of the remote using ordinary black PLA filament, and not specifically need a window. I'm guessing that the characteristics of 3d-printed PLA won't be as good as cast IR-transmissive acrylic, but perhaps it will be good enough.

Получил знание эмпирическим путём.
Если есть подозрительная катушка филамента, которая в разных конфигурациях вызывала забивание экструдера на одном принтере, то если поставить её на другой принтер с ещё более сложной конструкцией, она скорее всего и там забьёт экструдер. И его разбирать будет уже дольше.
Полученное знание: иногда лучше выкинуть херовый филамент 😢

Early impressions of the filaments.ca Econofil Wood PLA filament are pretty positive.
It prints exceptionally well. I successfully printed a couple of Benchys and two this case for my Galaxy S21. I have a 0.8mm stainless nozzle and I'm doing 0.35mm layers. Default PLA profile, bed at 60° and nozzle at 190°. Little bit more stringing on the Benchys than I'd like. No adhesion issues, no clogs, no burning. Just hit "go" and it went.
It comes off the printer looking pretty dire, despite (I think) being 20% wood filler vs. many other filaments' 15%. This is not a material you want to leave as a raw print. You are printing it to finish it, not to use as is.
It sands much more like wood than PLA. That was a pleasant surprise. Sanding is essential to make it take stain or paint, because otherwise the top surface is just plastic. So having it be pleasant to sand is a welcome surprise.
Speaking of stain, I'm pretty pleased with the way it took stain. I used Behr semi-transparent stain in Natural Cedar and Bordeaux, making a couple of darker shades of cedar by mixing in Bordeaux as I went. Gave it a nice streak effect.
Next, once this dries, I'll attach the laser attachement to my Mega Pro and see if I can't etch a logo into the back of it. Then I'll use spar urethane to coat it, just like I would a paddle.
