along with an exhibition and a subject from a few years ago.

This photo really made it back then and was enlarged into a 3-meter-wide poster. Considering it came from a half-frame 35mm negative, that was actually quite an achievement… For years, “the Mary” or “the Bernadette” hung above the bar.

The experience of photographing and exhibiting in a former rectory subtly influenced the trajectory of my work, as elements of religious symbolism and reference began to emerge.

This can be helpful if your lab doesn't offer that service (or it's too pricey), or if developing at home doesn't allow it (e.g., you're developing several films in one tank).

The technique is pretty obvious in hindsight, yet I haven't seen anyone mention it.

Shear pattern (I suppose what's called a "branch attachment") in fallen crack-willow trunk, October 19, 2025, 3:25pm. Town of Ulysses, Finger Lakes, upstate New York.

We had an enormous (60', 40" base) crack willow stabilizing the bank where the creek leaves the pond. The main trunk fell late this summer, splitting near the base. We think it was about 100 years old. This knot was revealed right at the base of the split. The wood to the left of the split looks like clean heart wood, but on the right it looks like bark inclusion (or perhaps dead wood that has rotted). Despite the fragility, crack willow frequently gets quite large around here, but pretty much all end in mechanical failure rather senescence.

At the end of September, I took my camera to the Festival of Giant Kites that happens every year on Tempelhofer Feld.

This time, I felt experimental and took some expired films with me. One of these films was the heavily expired Lucky Super 100 New that I never used before. It didn't matter much since the film is heavy on grain and filled with color shifts.
