Just brought my #XPlane #flightsim #Cirrus SF50 back from Burbank (in the rain) and found that the Alitalia 845P nonstop to Palermo is now boarding at gate Alpha 4.

(Fun fact: X-Plane just throws random airplanes in at the airports, you never know what you are going to see. There is no nonstop to Palermo from Eugene. And Alitalia does not even fly into here unless they've had an emergency diversion).

...and with dongle connected to parallel port, software on the PC works!

Now I need to figure out how correctly wire (and initialize) the CDU (thing with screen and lots of buttons) and the flight control port (FCP?).

Today I took a closer look at the weird DB25 passthrough dongle that came with the MD80 flight simulator/trainer hardware.
There seem to be no developer/company markings besides a printed serial number with additional labelprinter labels.
Turns out this is actually a parallel port security dongle and without this the main simulator software doesn't start...

This is a simulated instrument for McDonnell Douglas 80 simulator. Not sure how it differs from the real one in the plane cockpit (there's actually two of them), but I suspect that real flight-ready unit has proper "aircraft" connectors instead of DB-9 serial ports.

I think this is a sweaty palms approach for landing, since if I follow the glideslope, its will be crash (due to terrain bug in flight simulator). But here, I can manage to land it with lower vertical speed (not a really hard landing).
