I have yet to meet the three midnight washerwomen. But it’s good to know which way to wring the sheets so my arms don’t snap off and I’m suffocated in their wet washing.

It doesn't always have to be a _black_ dog haunting the countryside. Try a yellow dog for a change!

My first taste of wild garlic this year. In Northern hemispheres, we would bring in the new year around this time. We've survived the bitter winter&now we get to see new shoots, plants& flowers springing into life.

It's a time to rejuvenate the body&mind. Longer days& sunlight & an abundance of gifts from nature. This is what we should be thankful for. This is the real new year ❤️✨

A patch of wild garlic growing from the ground. Green and vibrant with the words "Spring is here, happy new year!!!" written in yellow text in the bottem lefthand corner of the image

Well, just how the hell am I supposed to translate this, then? "Svenska Folk-Sagor och Äfventyr" Swedish folktales and folktales? Swedish folktales and adventures? What is the difference, in Swedish, between a saga and an äventyr?

I fell at the first hurdle, it seems.

In Haiti, some believe that magical practitioners can put people in a death-like trance, steal them from their graves after their funerals, revive them to a semi-conscious state, and force them to work. Some Haitians who claim to have been through this ordeal can show others their graves and death certificates. Such folklore likely, in part, originates from the traumas of slavery. The Haitian penal code states: "The use made against a person of substances, which, without giving death, will cause a more-or-less prolonged state of lethargy ... is considered an attempt on life by poisoning. If the person was buried as a consequence of this state of lethargy, the attempt will be considered a murder." The painting below is by Haitian artist Hector Hyppolite from 1946. #gothic #folklore #death #mythology #history #art #painting #graveyard #zombies

In Scottish folklore, selkies are intelligent seals who often become fascinated by human life. They can remove their seal skins to temporarily become beautiful men and women, and will have romances with the local humans. However, eventually all selkies return to the ocean.

The Norman fortress of Beeston Castle, perched high on its island of sandstone above the #Cheshire plain. #Legend has it a fabulous treasure is buried deep down in the rock below it. And here in the 1920s, if I remember correctly, a small mob of kangaroos was kept. #folklore #castles #medievalsky

✨NEW PRINTS✨

I finally got around to editing and releasing these prints of the three most popular paintings from my latest October challenge! 🌲🥳

You can adopt them right here: lindenshieldarts.com/products/

All my prints are lovingly homemade in my own little studio, printed on archival cotton paper, and signed, stamped, and dated on the back~

A photo of three portrait-format prints, placed on a wooden desk and surrounded by moss, palo santo, hag stones, branches, leaves, and crystals. The prints all show mixed-media paintings, featuring, from left to right: a giant horned silhouette rising out of the mist above a gloomy mountain forest; a mossy bridge with dappled light in a dark conifer forest, a small stream winding towards the background; a large hag stone standing atop a pile pf rocks in a nighttime field, with a sunset view visible through its hole.

In British folklore, when King Gorlagon discovered his wife was having an affair, she used sorcery to turn him into a wolf. However, the king kept his intelligence and used his lupine body to protect his kingdom and harass his wife. After many years, Gorlagon regained his human form, and told his story to King Arthur.
