The Swallows in Trier Cathedral:

Once, Bishop Egbert was reading mass in Trier Cathedral. Then gradually, such a huge number of swallows flew inside through the open windows that the bishop was scarcely able to finish mass because of the ruckus that their swarming around the high altar caused.

Then the bishop grew angry and pronounced a curse against them so that every swallow which was still within the church or entered it later on would immediately die. Bereft of life, all swallows which still fluttered around in the cathedral dropped to the ground, and this remains the case until today.
