Knows what's in the food, can ask anything:
- the Netherlands
Questions are confusing, but the food is usually safe:
- Korea
- China
- Japan (some mixed results)
An effort is made:
- Czechia
- Mexico
No effort is made:
- United States (unless it's a chain with an online allergy menu)
- France (by far the worst offender). They don't give a fuck.

Good news for people with food allergies!
CA just passed a law requiring restaurants with at least 20 locations to disclose allergens on their menus! It goes into effect July 1, 2026.
It's progress in allergy awareness, and maybe the benefits will go beyond CA, like if a national chain prints menus to disclose allergens in CA, maybe the same menus will be used in other states too.

It's at times like this that I again start looking to see if there are any portable "food allergen tester" electronic devices on the market yet, and if not, where I should look to direct funding to help make it happen!
(That and research to develop proper "neutralising cures" that work even better than the current antihistamines at not only fixing any symptoms that crop up, but preventing them in the first place if taken before consuming something potentially troublesome)

Look, if you're going to invite my family for a meal & you know my kid has food allergies, when you say:
"Please bring your own food for him, since I can't commit to having more than 1 thing safe for him to eat."
What I hear is:
"I can't be bothered to accommodate your child's food allergy, it's too inconvenient. Maybe he just shouldn't come."
And then I wonder, why are you inviting us if you don't want us to feel welcome? WHAT IS THE POINT?! 😠

Has anyone built a tool for diffing ingredient lists from major restaurants? An ongoing mystery in my life is why I have a very clear allergic reaction to some fast food but not nearly identical fast food from another chain. Would be awesome to be able to get a list of ingredients that both McDonald’s and Taco Bell use but Jack in the Box does not. #foodallergy
(Anyone replying “who cares, don’t eat fast food” will be blocked for utterly missing the point)

🔸Went for a walk yesterday to spot local plum blossoms. Heavy scent of the blooms wafted on the icy cold breeze, but wife with cedar pollen allergy (which triggered fruit allergy) couldn't detect it😟
