The / experience. (whining out loud OFC)

- Find a new UX nag with that prevents switching

- still has a 8 year bug where performance tanks if you rotate the canvas (& no rotate shortcut w/ mousewheel)

- Hack together a solution to get CSP that works for 2 days. Then pen pressure works until you alt-tab, then you got to restart the entire application and re-enable the pen.

As loved as it is, this is why nobody can take it seriously for creative pursuits.

@libreoffice
I like #LibreOffice (and donated a small amount of money for its further development) because it's #FOSS ,works perfectly for me (even better than #Word , for instance) and above all it's free from any U.S. #GAFAM . However, I don't really need the stickers. 😉

@eugenialoli same with photo #raw processing, non of the #foss apps use the color profiles of the cameras, no 16bit raw and many other issues. I gave up retouch due to the still bad gimp ux and the bad implementation of non destructive editing.

The sad reality is the #linuxdesktop is not ready for professional #mediaproduction and this is such a bad thing in times like this.

#davinciresolve also barely runs on everything except nvidia on #linux and still has no #flatpak

Even blender is a pain with amd #rocm

By using video editors I gave up color grading that was capable of believable film emulation (via Resolve and its third party plugins).

But it's even more disturbing that none of these foss apps support 10bit h.264/5. Let alone Raw. This kind of makes them useless to me, as most of my cameras record as such. In fact, most new non-phone cameras record as such by default.

But like I LIVE IN AN AFRICAN REGION WITH HORRIBLE INTERNET Infrastructure, so most paid software that isn't #foss #opensource just HAS to go out the window, even if the convenience it brings is quite needed. Like everyday in this country is a fight of survival on some level 😭

The more updates come to #Telegram, the worse it gets, now with #AI! Let me remind you of the #alternatives: see where I'm on at gianmarco.gg/contact. They might not be perfect, but they're the only way out of this hellscape for now.

Also, I'm starting to work with some friends on an alternative #chat of our own, trying to avoid the shortcomings of existing #FOSS messengers (but we're still in early stages of development, so I can't guarantee anything.)

Screenshot of Pavel Durov's latest post on his Telegram channel talking about Grok integration, along thousands of very likely to be rigged reactions. The post reads as follows:

🔥 This summer, Telegram users will gain access to the best AI technology on the market. Elon Musk and I have agreed to a 1-year partnership to bring xAI’s chatbot Grok to our billion+ users and integrate it across all Telegram apps 🤝

💪 This also strengthens Telegram’s financial position: we will receive $300M in cash and equity from xAI, plus 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions sold via Telegram 💰

Telegram + Grok = ❤️📈🏆

AI Europe and the rest.

I am still very impressed by how Germany and Western Europe intend to achieve this. All parties in the German Bundestag have decided to drastically increase the military budget. A cross-party front for war. If you read non-Western newspapers, the tenor is clear: “Germany is Nazi again.” What can one say? Yes, it's true.

Apart from this depressing realization, what is particularly striking is how far Germany and the EU are falling behind technologically. It is more than disconcerting. There seems to be a complete failure to recognize what is happening. I'm not even sure if the US has figured that out. Artificial intelligence, neural networks, LLMs—that's not ChatGPT, which you can use to ask funny questions on your Apple phone. Calling it “intelligence” was a clever move from the start. It makes users feel like they are intelligent themselves. But AI is just as intelligent as a fountain pen. Karl Marx's fountain pen didn't write “Das Kapital.” The intelligent ones are those who use it as a tool.

I only see two groups that are really using it wisely. One is China, and the other is the digital underground, especially on its dark fringes. China has taken a revolutionary step, one that cannot be overestimated. China has made its fully weighted, highly complex AI models OPEN SOURCE under a MIT license. This is not only a gift to the world and to humanity. It is also an incredible boost to innovation, especially for China itself. In China, LLMs, Deepseeks, and ChatGPTs play a lesser role. Instead, neural networks are used to control processes in industry, logistics, and society in general.

The West likes to believe that everything in China is centrally controlled, that it is all autocracy and dictatorship. But the most powerful technology of our time is completely unregulated and freely available to the people. Thousands of companies and hundreds of communities are using it and in turn making their developments available to the general public.

The latest is Model Context Protocol (MCP), which makes it possible to control any third-party programs, even highly complex ones such as Gimp, CAD, or Blender. In addition to China (and through China), it is the digital underground that is extremely dynamic in providing the appropriate FOSS tools for AI control. ... nice digital infrastructure you have there. A little old-fashioned but nice....

Was soll man sagen, ja stimmt.

You’ve seen my posts about Linux accessibility. You’ve read me scream about broken screen readers, unusable bootloaders, and the sheer volume of stuff that only works after three undocumented hacks and a blood sacrifice. That’s from someone who already knows how to deal with this mess.
But what happens when someone new tries to step in?
My partner just published the first post in a new blog series called “Linux: Helpful or Headache?” It’s a personal account of what it feels like to stare into the abyss of Linux as a blind user who hasn’t even installed it yet. This isn’t a “how to” guide. It’s not a technical tutorial. It’s a moment of honest vulnerability and curiosity in the face of a system that’s infamous for treating newcomers like an inconvenience.
Part One – An Introduction
reading4life.mataroa.blog/blog
She’s totally blind. She’s used to Windows and iOS — platforms where accessibility is at least visible, documented, and supported. Linux? From the outside, it looks like a twisted obstacle course: too many distros, zero onboarding, no centralized help, and a community that can't agree on anything except that "you should have read the wiki."
And yet… she’s jumping in anyway.
This first post talks about that pre-installation limbo. The “what the hell even is a distro?” stage. The existential dread of picking between MATE and GNOME when you don’t even know how to pronounce “Flatpak.” The raw, unfiltered feeling of not knowing what you don’t know — and doing it anyway, because the itch to explore is stronger than the fear of breaking stuff.
There’s no cheerleading here. No “yay open source!” No tidy beginner tutorial with copy-paste terminal commands. Just one blind woman staring down the reality that Linux doesn’t come with a support number, and deciding to try it anyway — not because it’s easy, but because she wants to learn, grow, and maybe even call bullshit where it’s due.
And if you're wondering — no, I didn’t write or co-write it. This is her voice, her experience, her story. But it does tie in beautifully with the nightmare I’ve been chronicling in my own posts, from a totally different vantage point.
If you’ve ever tried to onboard someone to Linux, especially someone disabled, this is what it actually looks like. And if you’ve ever told someone “Linux is great, just pick a distro,” read this and realize how much we take for granted.
Go read it. Boost it. Follow the series. She's only just getting started.
