Went to Fotografiska Berlin yesterday and saw the Frank Ockenfels exhibition - Introspection. Wauw what an experience!! First of all being back in the Tacheles building again and secondly seeing the depth and variety of Franks work in a fitting environment. Highly recommendable!!

Part of the exhibition is a photo station where AI is used to analyze your face, predict your age, and give you some questions to reflect on. This picture shows the device, a silver colored box on the wall.

I’ve been to #Fotografiska New York where two entire floors are occupied by a boring and pretty obvious collection of photos by #VivianMaier, and then, suddenly, here comes an amazing exhibition of images by #BruceGilden. Most of them are so real and crude to be quite disturbing 😳 . What a master, what a treat!!

I loved this from Bruce Gilden in an interview playing at his Fotografiska exhibit:

“I’m angry. I’ll always be angry. If I stop being angry, I’ll lose my art. I’ll stop being Bruce Gilden.”

There was another I can only paraphrase: he knows he can't be Cartier-Bresson, but he can be the best possible version of Bruce Gilden. Words to live by.

It goes viral on Flickr. Now there are documentaries and books. Dying in 2009, she's never to know she's now seen as one of the great 20th century street photographers. That’s fake, right?

The life of Vivian Maier (1926-2009), is a fascinating story about one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century.
This exhibition presents a holistic view of her work, focusing on the major themes that defined her creative output.
Her photographic language lies at the crossroads of humanist photo-graphy, a style she likely owes to her French roots, and American street photography, which informs her traditional visuals. Maier uses street scenes, sidewalk chronicles, portraits, self-portraits and gestures to depict a precise record of her time. She meticulously documented the urban fabric and socio-political changes of American society in New York and Chicago from the 1950s to the 1990s. She portrays this time period through photography and film, creating a rich and complex visual language.

Vivian Maier belonged to the invisible working-class at the height of the American dream, allowing her to only be a witness to it. It took a long time for her work to see the light and to be revealed.

This exhibition presents, for the first time in the U.S, a complete presentation of her dense body of work, and reveals Maier, the "amateur" photographer belongs alongside some of the greatest names in photographic history, such as Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, Berenice Abbott, and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Die Videoinstallation stellt auf zwei Leinwänden Täter und Opfer gegenüber. Es geht sehr unter die Haut, wenn man beobachten muss, wie eine offenbar gefolterte, misshandelte Frau fast nackt vor Soldaten tanzen muss, die sie in einem großen Raum umringen.
