As I experiment with running local #llm on my #framework desktop, having 128GB of ram certainly gives you lots of options. I can run some large models, but they're generally quite slow.

I ordered a Framework Desktop computer back on November 5th.

I think it got delivered in December.

I put it together yesterday (January 5th).

The instructions are pretty good. I was able to put it together pretty easily.

However, I encountered a problem.

The Framework Desktop computer is not outputting anything on HDMI.

(Which, of course, makes it unusable.)

New blog post! I just got a Framework Desktop, and I wanted to use it as a node on a Talos Linux Kubernetes cluster. The initial boot was not easy to grasp, and took me a few hours to figure it out, so I wanted to share with you how to make it work. I hope this is useful for someone.

Real interesting results benchmarking my new system... I was going to install CachyOS instead of Manjaro, thinking that I would see some significant improvements (given the scheduler, and the instruction set optimizations in Cachy). But that doesn't really appear to be the case. Looking through the results on Geekbench, the biggest difference on single core is ~6.5%, while multicore is ~2.5%.

And I haven't done any tuning to the system yet... Meaning I could close that margin a bit.
