Been trying my darnest to get my favorite #vim setup to work on my most favorite OS. :floofHeart:

I figure I share anyway because despite the failure I'm facing now, we really gotten over a few roadblocks in setting up networking and pulling data over https.

curl doesn't have the means to pull data from https out of the box because it lacks the means to generate sufficient randomness for SSL. To correct this, you need a dedicated random$ device driver.

#freedos has the noise driver available for the i386 and Pentium x86 cpus. You get it from the lynx web browser package. Then load that from FDCONFIG.SYS

Unfortunately, I'm now butting up against the fact that vim-plug works with git, and there's no official git app for DOS at this time. I wonder if I can fake it by making a script within %PATH% :floofTeehee:

This is vim v7.3.46 running on FreeDOSv1.4. The plugin manager, vim-plug was able to be successfully installed and run, but it's not finding git. That's because there's no native git client installed.

Update: Added an internal amplifier and speakers. Need to figure out how to clean this wiring mess up, then 3D print some panels.

<p>Pour réussir ce tour de force, il a gravé une image disque de 64 Ko (contenant un noyau FreeDOS minimal) sous forme de signal audio analogique sur le disque. Grâce à une ROM personnalisée (une puce 2364 insérée dans le socket d'extension du BIOS) qui remplace le code de boot habituel, le PC récupère le son via son interface cassette. Les routines du BIOS se chargent ensuite de la démodulation du signal pour charger le tout en RAM. C'est un peu comme

#DOSember isn't JUST about gaming, so I want to celebrate the season by doing something new to me: giving #FreeDOS a try! I've known about it for ages but I've never actually used it before. I'm going to give it a try in 86Box, and once I've got a feel for it there I'll set it up on my Win98 machine.

It seems to have a nice package collection and I get the impression that dev and networking on it are pretty solid. And of course we'll do some gaming!

I don't know why but I now have tcp/ip and sound working in #FreeDOS 1.4!
